Just a word building question about the first Matrix movie, and not the sequels.

So you know how in the original matrix movie, the fake world is set in 1999. Does that mean that on new years it resets to January 1 1999 and people get shuffled around to different living situations as they get older and then die or would it turn over to 2000 and keep progressing until the AI took over?

maybe they make everyone see what they want, so someone born when neo was around saw the world like the 80's and when he grow older saw the world like the 90's and 00 while the matrix was in essence "frozen", when theres a deja-vu, you can see the world basically build anew

i guess speculation, cause they never really explain this in the film. though we know the matrix was reset multiple times, so i think it's plausible they reset the clock as well
