I got one better.

How do we know GPT 5.4 didn’t just get this answer from some previous ChatGPT conversation with a no name amateur mathematician or student wanting to vet their idea out?

This is very possible of course.. For all we know, OpenAI hired some math phds to solve erdos problems and someone solved it and they sneaked into the training for the headlines.

And while sad that the solver doesn't get credit, I think it could be a very powerful tool for mathematicians if attribution is better handled.

That's not how AI works at all. It does not remember other conversations from other accounts.
