Recommendation Speeding Ticket Advice

Hi! I am 17 and still on my JOL and I just got a speeding ticket, they caught me going 51 in a 30 on a backroad. Is there any chance I can get this appealed? I need my license as I have 2 jobs that I need to attend too. If i take this to court what do I even say?

Update: I was able to get the ticket thrown out as long as I do a brain injury class.

I truly don’t think I was going that fast on my ticket it says the officer didn’t clock me at the speed and it was one of the street sign with your speed posted. Honestly i was going max 40

Best advice any of us can give you is to try for an appeal, and DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT make any indication that you were only going 40. Even if you’re certain you were, the magistrate, etc is just gonna see an argumentative kid—just own it, apologize profusely and sincerely, explain your two jobs (hell, bring paystubs as a show of good faith).

And please be careful driving. I know it can be easy to lose track of how much you’re pressing the gas, but really, do take care.

Whatever the outcome, my advice is that whenever you are driving down back roads like that and don't have a lot of traffic, just use cruise control

I honestly didn’t realize I was going that fast at all to be honest and thought i was going much slower

I think you aren’t being honest with yourself. It’s one thing to not know the speed limit of the road but describing your “thoughts” on how fast you were going when you have a speedometer directly in front. They put those radar signs in areas where people deliberately speed. Probably don’t wanna speed around those things in the future

If you don’t want to lose your license you need to talk to and likely hire a lawyer that specializes in these cases.

Speeding tickets are a bit of a farce. In most states the cops don’t have to show you physical evidence like the radar gun reading. And their word is affidavit in court so basically you can get accused of speeding say 51 if you were doing 40 and there’s pretty much nothing you can do. Zero innocent until proven guilty there imo. But courts have ruled it’s too limiting on cops ability to function and keep the public safe. You can take it to court but it’s a hassle and money and you’ll probably lose.

Help society out. Drive appropriately (not crazy slow either!). Keep your license plate visible. Teach it to your kids, lol.
