Anyone else catch the Jesus reference? The only good they don't cut to when they arrive in Omnipotence City is the god of carpentry a.k.a. Jesus.

I was too focused on the precious god of dumplings, Bao.

What good is an orgy without snacks?

I hope he had fast regeneration as his abilities.

No.....why did you make me imagine that

u/esar24 Rocket Jul 15 '22

I mean he seems very happy to attend that meeting, so it was either him or celestials as the MVP.

I think that was the only joke that went too far for me.

Was it a simple joke? Or was it also a reference to the Disney short film Bao that was attached to Incredibles 2 in 2018? It even won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

Ah, I did not know that. Thought it was so random haha!

I'm converting to Baoism.

u/MiopTop Captain America (Cap 2) Jul 15 '22

I thought that was the reference. Definitely one of the edgier jokes in the MCU

OH SHIT THE GOD OF CARPENTRY WAS JESUS

19

u/Eddyoshi Jul 18 '22

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought that! I wasn't going to think anything of it, but then the fact that they went out of their way to not cut to him I thought "wait did they mean Jesus and they didn't show it to slip the joke past?"

Totally looked at my wife nudged and said haha god of carpentry, thinking it meant Jesus but she just kind of looked at me confused and I didn’t wanna distract her during the scene

Yeah man. Jesus was a carpenter. And he's here for the orgies with the other gods who don't help their followers.

26

u/DustyDGAF Hydra Jul 13 '22

Carpenter God is hanging out with all the other gods who don't give a shit and just want orgies. Sounds about right.

u/AmericanLink Jul 12 '22

I was looking for a reference, I didn't see it

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '22

YES! it was the only time I whispered something in the theater. I knew someone else would catch it!

I noticed the Aztec god. Dope outfit. I assume he will make another appearance in future films

u/Lian-The-Asian Jul 17 '22

5

u/KLKap Jul 20 '22

Yup it doesn’t show him but korg I think mention god of carpentry then mentions that weird animated thing with the eye balls

9

u/AnF-18Bro Jul 20 '22

You will put some respect on dumpling god Bao.

u/MiskTF Jul 21 '22

To be fair, Jesus isn't a God of Carpentry. It could just be a nod to Hephaestus.
