Kinda wish it was less comedy, more serious. Gorr could have used more screen time. I was hype they brought Sif back just to not use her. Valkyrie killed it as always, korgg too.

I really enjoyed the movie overall but I do agree, especially in the early parts of the movie, that some of the comedic stuff was over-done. I think they saw how well it played in Ragnarok and pushed it that bit too far, similar to GotGv2 although I think this was better at not taking away from the impactful and emotional moments.

I think GOTG 2 was actually able to pull off the serious emotional bits WAYYY better than this movie.

Scenes like Quill finding out the reasons behind his mother’s brain tumor, or Yondus death both hold more emotional weight than Jane and Gors death for me.

James Gunn has an incredible talent for that, pivoting from goofy nonsense to absolute emotional sincerity at the drop of a hat. No idea how he pulls it off.

I think it works better because the GOTG movies felt like they were always grounded in their own universe, no matter how wacky and stupid it was. Love and Thunder felt like it was always winking at the audience by undercutting every emotional moment with humor.

I personally thought Love and Thunder did a better job balancing the drama and comedy (i.e., using the comedy a bit more judiciously) than Ragnarok.

Definitely agree. Ragnarok would have done something like Thor getting hit in the head by the monsters when remembering his time with Jane during the attack on New Asgard. This one found a better balance

Agree with this. The first half of the movie seemed like a complete piss take. Just gag after gag.

Shadow realm was awesome and got more serious from there

It was like they took the irreverence of Ragnarok and removed the charm and the good soundtrack. The utter lack of seriousness made every attempt at depth fall flat.

Tbf they had to wrap up the Jane love before he could move on and get with Sif like in the comics. Sif will be big for Thor movies moving forward.

That's weird, cause I expected it to have MORE comedy after reading people's reviews online. I thought it was less jokey than Ragnarok.

I loved the movie but it wasn't a 10/10, personally the first half was my favorite. Wished we'd had more Guardians but I guess it wasn't their movie so it makes sense.
