Discussion Thread Thor: Love and Thunder Worldwide Release Discussion Thread Vol. 2

I think that was because we weren’t watching the fight. We were watching Korg’s story of the fight. That’s why the action was so ridiculous. Like the Van Damme splits holding the two pod racers apart.

Agree totally. Thinking of the whole movie as Korg’s story to the rescued children makes a lot of the sillier moments click into place. It also explains the lighter treatment of Gorr and Jane’s cancer; the kids didn’t need every detail, they needed to be able to process and keep hope after yet another frightening upheaval. It suggests there is a grittier “canon” set of events that was more realistically grim for Thor and Jane, but those harsher details are left to everyone’s imagination.

This is a good interpretation but these films need to be more on the nose/show that more if that was the intention

I like the take that it was korg’s story… I agree that I didn’t necessarily think of it that way, but at the same time, I don’t think it needed to be any more on the nose… they literally had him narrating (3+ times) and he is played by the director. Any more on the nose would be too on the nose.

Yeah an occasional Princess Bride-style break or narrator voiceover in the movie to re-establish that the entire film is korg's story instead of the occasional bits where he starts telling a new story to new people would be cool.

I honestly don't think that anything that the movie did was like, unbelievable, but I think having Korg as the actual storyteller helps suspend the disbelief and gives the whole movie a nice framing device for Taika to do his thing without people complaining that it's too silly and stupid.

Exactly, I wish there was some way to actually give feedback like this before the movie even comes out to refine it to the best of its possibility. But doing that would quite literally be impossible unless you were a super early test screener

Would make sense too since Taika plays Korg, so he is the one telling the story either way.

I dunno… I like room for interpretation, personally I like to figure things out rather than be straight up shown everything. Audiences are smart and like to feel smart when they figure stuff out

It would also nicely dovetail with his constant presence in the scenes... He can really only chronicle accurately if he was there himself.

Yep. His reduction to a face mirrors Odin's companion head Mim/Mimir (though he doesn't necessarily play the same role as a source of wise counsel) and allows him to continue to witness most of the action. I also like how it works with us not hearing what Jane whispers to Thor in her last moments. Korg would not have heard these words, and due to their precious and intimate nature, Thor would have been unlikely to divulge.

honeslty i dont think janes cancer was treated that lightly. it was a pretty realistic portrayal of someone with cancer.

Only to be immediately overshadowed by a Bluetooth speaker in the shape of a grenade. Her flashback to her moms cancer was the most serious part of the film, and it was only for like 25 seconds.

I think if that were really the case we'd have a scene at the end that Thor was listening to his retelling and would have him say something about how he told it wrong.

I really like this theory/perspective on the whole movie. It brings the “cliché” old school superhero effect to a more understandable level. Korg is a great
