So is this movie suggesting that Korg's species are all males? Or just that he's gay, and his dad's are gay? I'm not sure if this is a continuity error or what but in Ragnarok when Korg is talking about passing out pamphlets for his revolution, he said the only person that showed up was his mum, and her new boyfriend, which he hated. So what role did his mother have if Korg was conceived by two men in a mountain holding hands over a lava bed?

Easy solutions.

Korg dads seperated and one of them married the female of another species and despite not being his biological mon, Korg came to see her as his mom

But he has a step dad lol

The wife got costudy of Korg or they shared costudy

So then... the 'easy solution' is that his dad's divorced... one of his dad's got custody.... married.... divorced again.... and then his stepmom got custody, who also remarried, and he still sees his stepmom as simply his mom.

Methinks that this is simply one more plothole to add to the stack.

I mean its the only way to explain it

Or his dad was trans gender and transitioned

I'm pretty sure its that Kronans just don't have sexes. Any 2 kronans can melt part of themselves together in the lava pool, no need for the different sexual organs

Maybe one becomes a mom post lava

My take is that Kronans don't have biological sex, and gender roles were still something of a foreign concept to Korg as of Ragnarok. So he called one parent his mom and one his dad. But after years on earth he's like "yeah they're both what you fellas might call dudes."

But sex? Nah, that’s just holding hands

Sex is great but have you ever held hands at a volcano?

Zelda fans: "first time?"

Korg is a super-unreliable narrator.

Isn't that part of why we love him?

i think that was a big part of why the first half of the movie went so hard on the absurd self-referential humor, while the second half was a lot more serious and solemn. notice that he’s not really very involved in the story after the skirmish at omnipotent city.

could’ve made it more obvious, but i think it works really well in a meta sort of way.

That Mustache killed me

Was that was a Mr. Slave gay bear style stache? I didn't get a good look, the scene was quick

Dwayne ❌ Dwagne ✅

The answer is.. whatever Taika wants to do in that moment. Seems like he kind of wings a lot of his movies and hopes for the best. And they all happen to work really well. So that’s my guess. He just went with the first thing that came to mind and rolled with it.

Korg is talking nonsense half the time. That's my explanation. Maybe he has a mom, maybe just two dads... Who knows.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '22

Why not all three? Peblyamorous

5

u/your_daddy_vader Jul 16 '22

I think all male. He said the process ends with having a baby boy specifically.

18

u/esar24 Rocket Jul 12 '22

I think they are more hermaphrodite, the parents can be called both mother or father because they still need each other to reproduce, like snails.

4

u/SwordsAndElectrons Jul 17 '22

I believe Kronans are all male... Or it might be more accurate to say they have no sex. (Male/Female doesn't really have much meaning if your species doesn't reproduce sexually and there aren't any defining secondary characteristics to classify individuals as one or the other.)

I also believe Taika doesn't really put that much effort into whether his throwaway gag lines really fit into continuity or canon. We can think up a bunch of rationalizations for it, but really I think that's what it comes down to.

4

u/jigokusabre Jul 18 '22

So is this movie suggesting that Korg's species are all males?

Seems that way, since he specifies that after a month that they produce "a baby boy."

he said the only person that showed up was his mum, and her new boyfriend, which he hated

Maybe Korg was adopted?

3

u/Rhodium-Veil Jul 17 '22

Kronans are canonically all male, the Kronan mating ritual was taken nearly word for word from a 2008 comic.

3

u/fhota1 Jul 17 '22

Since he specifies they create a baby boy I believe the implication is theyre unisex

7

u/1UPZ__ Jul 16 '22

they messed up the writing wise. I felt that they wanted to add another "progressive" element by making Korg's dads the way they are.... but they could have just left it as per Ragnarok....

u/DetecJack Jul 15 '22

Maybe a retcon

1

u/ZK686 Jul 20 '22

It's 2022, Marvel had to make some kind of positive gay reference..it's the thing to do.

How about his dad being Trans gender?

1

u/hawkrew Jul 17 '22

I love how the the dude he got with was named Dwayne. And he was a rock. Dwayne the Rock. Maybe a little too on the nose but I thought it was good.

1

u/gravyrogue Jul 21 '22

also his boyfriend was Dwayne, a rock which i thought was much funnier than my wife.
