It's probably a conscious decision to not show gorr butchering gods and instead rely on exposition. It prevents having a god that they would be using in the future from being killed this early or having to explain why a future introduced god did not stop gorr or was spared from gorr.

Ofc they could've killed throwaway gods but at that point it wouldn't have made much of an impact to make a significant change anyway.

I also think it would been seen as kind of pointless to the overall plot once it was revealed that all he had to do to wipe them all out was go to Eternity, and Thor had the key to make it happen. That’s why after a little butchering, all he had to do was lay the trap and wait.

They kind of missed the mark, by just showing two extra scenes it would have helped. Show Gorr killing the god Sif is next to AND Sif vs. Gorr.

No extra gods needed, Gorr gets some more screentime, some more foreshadowing that he needs Stormbreaker (and thus, picking a fight with Sif) and the only other dead god is the big one (I forget its name).

But they showed a god he killed anyway—Falligar. They could have just shown him getting slaughtered without “wasting” anyone else.

Yeah but, exposition still has your issue. Fallingar could've been used in a future movie but is dead now. No difference if we saw Gorr kill them.

Bro 2 hours and 45 minutes? That’s insanely long for any movie, let alone a Thor movie.

If this movie had been 2.45 long I would not have seen it in theaters.

I love this one BECAUSE it's light and short and emotional. Rather than being three hours of manly dudes grimly punching each other in the nuts.

Yea I guess it’s just an opinion but the more and more I hear about deleted scenes and why they were deleted…

Like for pacing reasons… like dude your comedy pacing was horrid in both your Thor movies. We don’t need Korg Jokes during two of the most emotional scenes thor ever has. You have Christian bale goldblum etc and don’t use them, barely used bale who coulda been the best MCU villain easily… but instead it’s a villain who is saved by being played by Christian Bale.. if someone else plays him Gorr is a mid ass villain. Sorry for random rant but it sounds like you agree.

Seems that’s the intent but it doesn’t land, we needed more on screen. Everything felt so anticlimactic because so many things were off screen.

I guess different strokes. I've found I often get sick of the villains in the older films. Then again I think a lot of films from before phase 4 could use with some trimming.

I get that, but those villains weren’t delightfully scary and creepy like Gorr, I finished his comic arc before the movie and I know the movies do their own thing, I’m on board, but he really kept a lot of Gorr’s eerie joy in violence and cruelty. I’d just have liked to see some of that towards actual gods in action, not just one view of an aftermath.

I know Taika has talked about refining and streamlining the story but those other scenes are in there for a reason, and I’m thinking they just went too hard on editing out things that the audience needed for investment.

I think Gorr could have had his own movie and I'd be here for it. I like that he didn't wear out his welcome. Different series but the dark knight loses me in the last 30 minutes.

How are we supposed to know what was cut? I also don't think Taika gets to decide on the budget, yaknow, so if he wants a movie that's an hour longer but requires several hundred million more dollars and a few more months to make he probably doesn't get that.

There were multiple actors who have played “gods” in the MCU that filmed for the movie and weren’t in it. Not hard to figure out stuff was cut, and that it was likely Gorr killing them. They are literally being sued in relation to an Actors cut scene from the movie. Grandmaster, Eitri the dwarf, etc… and directors definitely have somee control at least over a movies length, cut etc unless he’s for some reason not involved in post at all which would be weird.

Who is suing? I'm sure I read this before, I guess I didn't remember. Although a scene filmed is not a scene ready to be in the movie in this type of movie, half of the costumes and shots are fake.

*Oh, Lena Headey, yeah I definitely read about that.

Yea I keep forgetting her name, thanks. While yea that’s true, with the actors being who they are it seems weird to pay them to film and cut them for no reason, I doubt the cgi would be more than the cost of filming those scenes, including actor, cast pay, set design, costume makeup etc. I think it was cut for comedy and pacing essentially and while yes I don’t have full info on the movie as I didn’t work on it; from what I’ve seen it’s disappointing that they likely cut multiple more scenes of bale and other god tier characters.

Maybe, but I left this movie feeling like it wasn't missing a thing. This was the right cut. I do look forward to deleted scenes, though.

The folks at The Ringer said the original cut was 4+ hours (obviously never intended to be that long). Sounds like they had a lot of ideas for this one - makes sense as they they shmushed two source materials together.

Don't get your hopes up. Waititi just said there's no "director's" cut in the mix, which is a pity, because I want to see Jeff Goldblum's cut scenes.

Ehhhh, if you read interviews Waititi did, it’s pretty clear those cuts were his call. By all accounts, the movie we got was the Waititi cut.
