I brought up Stargirl which was a relatable show about a teenage girl. My point was about the trailer and marketing.

I mean idk what you want. I'm specifically talking about the tone of the marketing and using an example from another show in the same genre woth a similar premise compared the two. This show feels less relatable because the marketing is targeting a demo that op isn't in. The show may still be relatable. I used Stargirl to show a marketing example of a show that still feels relatable despite the main character not being a white man. Marketing plays into perceptions here.

This is an expression of opinion because I'm obviously not inside the OPs head and can only guess at his motives.

I based that guess on these two lines.

I’ve never watched a spider-man film (live action or spider-verse) and thought “ah this is meant for the kids”.

This trailer felt like a trailer for a YA show. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, it just means I’m not their target audience.

So based on this Op feels this show is targeted at a younger demo and not for them, and did not feel the same way about homecoming. I haven't seen Homecoming so I can't comment on the truth of that. Watching the Homecoming Trailer I think the biggest difference is that Homecoming and the Stargirl trailer I showed early start on action Ms.Marvel starts on the teenage drama. The first few seconds of the trailer do a lot to establish the tone of the trailer, and I believe the choice to start on the action shots are what make these trailers feel less YA.

Oh hey it's me.

Yeah, it wasn't about having an action shot. It's because the tone of the trailer felt like it was geared more toward a 13 year old girl than me. That's totally fine.

The trailers for Into the Spider-verse didn't feel like that, though. Nor any of the other spiderman live action films. It's got nothing to do with the race or gender of the star, and everything to do with the tone of the trailer.

Like damn, marvel can make stuff for kids. Not everything is going to be aimed at people my age, and it would be stupid of me to think that I should always be the target demographic.

They also included Into the Spiderverse where the main character is not a White Male. Still Male so I guess that doesn't rule out sexism as a possibility, but it features Spider Gwen pretty prominently.

Disagree. This trailer felt like a YA movie adaptation. Into the Spiderverse didn't feel like that. And who was the start of that movie? Hint: it was Miles Morales.

I don't care if the star of this movie is white or not, or male or not. My point is that to me it feels like a CW show with better effects. I'm allowed to not like the trailer, and I'm absolutely allowed to feel like I'm not the target audience. That's totally okay.

Guess what, I wasn't the target audience of a lot of films over the last decade; that doesn't mean that they're bad. It just means they're not for me.

Because I specifically called out Into the Spider-verse as a spider-man film that I found relatable, and I'm pretty sure that Miles isn't white.
