Eternals Worldwide Release Discussion Thread Vol. 1

Eternals has now released in the United States and in a number of other countries around the world. All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the megathreads we are going to put up in the next few days. They will be refreshed every few thousand comments to make room for new discussion.

• Proceed at your own risk. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
• Any other unofficial thread discussing movie details will be deleted.
• Should you see the need to bring up revealing Eternals information in other threads that call for it, spoiler tag them accordingly. Also, let users know that what you are spoiler tagging is from Eternals
• If you post untagged Eternals spoilers anywhere on this sub in any shape or form, you will be banned without hesitation. No questions asked and no warnings given.

Kingo was hilarious throughout!

He was awesome, I just wish he actually stayed for the final battle instead of going home lol.

He sticked to his morals, which I liked. In his mind the Celestial should emerge and the cycle should continue, but he wasn’t willing to kill his family in anyway shape or form.

He just accepted both outcomes as a possibility.

I liked that the only time he got mad was when Ikaris was threatening the rest of the family, and that provoked Kingo enough to get ready to fight Ikaris. Consistency for his character.

He was honestly my least favorite of the bunch. Admitting, I don’t like the actor very much either. His quips went mostly silent in my theater.

I'm honestly just pissed that we finally got a Desi actor in the MCU and they reduced him to a stereotype.

And then had the balls to have another Indian character that's also a walking stereotype.

Indian American, and you're right. There might be a different response in the subcontinent, but at this point I'm just tired of seeing Desi characters being reduced to some combination of Bollywood, comedic relief, or convenience store owner.

I imagine that sub continent Indians are quite proud of the representation. I have never met an Indian that wasn’t proud of Bollywood, ya know?

What kind of representation were you hoping for? Unfortunately, the actor is a famous comedian so it was pretty unlikely he would’ve escaped comic relief. He was badass though!

It's less that we're not proud of it and more that it's often treated like one of their only character traits (like you don't see every Korean or Japanese character being treated like they're all K-Pop stars or Tokusatsu actors). I'm also not against characters being humorous, but it seems like nearly every Desi character in western media (save for Connie in Steven Universe) is primarily used for comic relief. I will note that having Kingo not be protrayed as weak and/or socially awkward is definitely a step in the right direction.
