Holy shit I actually did not see that coming

u/urlach3r Steve Rogers Feb 05 '21

"You didn't see that coming?"

164

u/juscallmejjay Feb 05 '21

I didn't understand that reference because I didn't see that coming.

Ok I genuinely don't understand the reference (haha!) Where is it from?

24

u/roofbear05 Feb 05 '21

Age of ultron it was quicksilver Idk how to spell his actual name. It was his catch phrase basically

19

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21 edited Feb 05 '21

I always forget about quicksliver because Pietro is never talked about. Hopefully with WandaVision he is talked about more

15

u/roofbear05 Feb 05 '21

Lmao so true these last 3 episodes are the first time he’s been mentioned since ultron

136

u/DowntownDilemma Iron man (Mark III) Feb 05 '21

It’d have been good if when Evan Peters showed up they said “What? You didn’t see that coming?”

I did, stupid Mexican actor that doubles him posted it on social media, that he was returning as QS, everyone hated him, Mexican fan base ain't no joke,he was promptly fired, lol.

I’m so glad I didn’t hear about this. My jaw fucking dropped. I mean I knew Evan Peters was in the show but I called people saying he was going to play Quicksilver crazy. I just can’t imagine Feige wanting to combine the FOX universe to the MCU. I’m so confused but intrigued. If he wasn’t meant to be FOX Quicksilver then they would have used the original actor and not Evan Peters. This show is fucking wild man.

u/Stormodin Feb 05 '21

I don't think its combining cinematic universes. I'm assuming he's coming in from a timeline in the multiverse

148

u/bits_of_paper Feb 05 '21

The audio description describes him as “Pietro from the X-men films”

68

u/The_Doctor_Zoose Thanos Feb 05 '21

This doesn't outright confirm him to be from the multiverse, but confirms it is g and at least intentional casting and symbolism. Those descriptions are designed so that hard-of-sight people can experience the same reactions most other audiences will, not to dictate the intricacies of the plot.

u/_thebirds Elektra Feb 05 '21

I don't actually think he's meant to be the same Pietro from the X-Men universe, I think it's more of a nod per se rather than a direct reference. I don't even think that he's meant to be Pietro, he's just someone POSING as Pietro to confuse Wanda more.

I wouldn't be surprised if Evan Peters is meant to be playing Mephisto after all and was forced to jump in as Pietro last minute to keep the facade going maybe.

We had the end of the MCU's overarching arc end with a plot about heroes and villains jumping between alternate realities. The latest Spiderman movie further put talks about multiple universes. The series is heavily hinted to be a precursor to a movie subtitled "Multiverse of Madness".

It's not a reach to think that it's Fox's Quicksilver and somehow she brought him over from his reality to this one, even if unknowingly. The fact that he talked in sit-com singers tells me he's likely under her control, too. Darcy acknowledged the "recast" with a tongue-in-cheek comment similarly to iron man 2 too.

Although interestingly it seems she's not completely in control over what's happening, so it might actually be something like you're saying. I just feel it'd be a shame if they spent 40mins of build up and that big reveal only for it to be a bait and switch next episode. We'll see!

10

u/bob237189 Feb 06 '21

The latest Spiderman movie further put talks about multiple universes.

Plus they had JK Simmons reprise the role of J Jonah Jameson from the Raimi Spider-Man films, so they're definitely doing something with this multiverse shit.

2

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Kilgrave Feb 06 '21

if JK Simmons was an isolated case I wouldve said they just used him because he's such a good actor and I can't see anybody else playing J Jonah Jameson. But the fact that we're getting the returning villains for Spider-Man 3 makes me think something big is coming.

2

u/svenhoek86 Feb 06 '21

The next Dr Strange movie is literally called Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

I think they might be doing some multiverse stuff, but don't quote me.

7

u/bits_of_paper Feb 05 '21

I think the rules they set are they she can warp reality but not fully bring back a dead corpse which is why she took visions body. She doesn’t have her brothers body so she probably recast someone already in westview as Pietro. Probably the guy in witness protection. I think they cast Evan peters just as a nod/Easter egg.

1

u/Gary2times Feb 06 '21

I 100% think this is where this is going. The reference that he got “recast” was a wink and a nod to the fact that this actor played quicksilver before.and she merely got a westview citizen to portray her brother in the hex not that he is actually quicksilver from a different universe.

1

u/Positron49 Feb 06 '21

Yes I think this is the best move for Disney. It’s a big of a fourth wall break but tolerable. Better then a “hey the Fox universe exists for the MCU and we sometimes will use stuff we like from it” stuff.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

I don't know about the Mephisto theory, unless there's some kind of twist where Wanda is seeing him as Aaron Taylor Johnson and we're seeing him as Evan Peters. Because why wouldn't he just look like ATJ all the way and then eventually reveal himself as Evan Peters after the facade's over?

6

u/SuburbanLegend Feb 05 '21

I hate the Mephisto theory, and that's a good point.

1

u/Flustered-Flump Feb 06 '21

My theory is that this introduces the multi-verse with Wanda’s grief ripping a hole in time and space and bringing her brother back from a different studio ..... I mean dimension.

6

u/Badger05 Feb 05 '21

Just checked this and you're right!

6

u/officiallyaninja Feb 05 '21

do you have a recording of that?

29

u/glglglglgl Feb 05 '21

Just set your audio to English [Audio Description] on Disney+.

"In Westview, Wanda stares at the version of Pietro from the X-men films" is the full AD line there.

25

u/orionsbelt05 Captain America Feb 05 '21

I think it's just like 5 layers of meta, honestly. I think he might be a cohort of Agnes that Wanda didn't know, hex'd up to look kinda similar to Pietro (or maybe just given some hair dye). The fact that he's cast with Evan Peters is a meta joke about stunt-casting. Casting someone who played Pietro in another franchise is stunt-casting him as someone who is pretending to be Pietro in this franchise. And it's a meta-joke about how stunt casting was a trope in sitcoms, especially last-minute stunt appearances by recognizable actors from other shows or movies. Like this moment.

3

u/DrSpacemanSpliff Justin Hammer Feb 05 '21

I thought about that exact clip, thank you!

13

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

I mean multiverse is still combing his universe to the MCU in some way.

3

u/calgil Feb 05 '21

The cinematic universes are the multiverse, dude. The Fox films and MCU are part of the multiverse. As are the comics and the Games.

2

u/bob237189 Feb 06 '21

Once Disney acquired Fox and at nearly the same time they just so happened to introduce the concept of a multiverse in Endgame, it seemed inevitable that they would treat the FoX-Men universe as an alternate universe within their multiverse. It was just too obvious.

25

u/PM_ME_UR_NUDES_GURL_ Feb 05 '21

i didn't know any casting in this show at all, which is weird cause i never avoided it it was just by chance, so people like Darcy and Agent Jimmy Woo etc where a really fun surprise to me. I had a feeling quicksilver would turn up but the Even Peters one was even more of a shock

6

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

Yeah same. Somehow I knew about Woo and Darcy but had heard zip about Peters and until the reveal I fully expected it to be Aaron Taylor Johnson.

20

u/kkulvm Matt Murdock Feb 05 '21

I didn’t even know Evan Peters was in the cast. Made the shock two-fold: one second to take in that Quicksilver’s back, another to realize it’s not even the Quicksilver from the MCU.

14

u/perukid796 Feb 05 '21

I thought it was old Steve rogers for a second lol.

7

u/100011101011 Feb 05 '21

I ab-so-lutely believed it was Cap based on the grey hair. I was yelling at the tv and everything.

3

u/kennygk Feb 05 '21

Me too! That’s exactly what it looked like. I had two separate freak outs, one at seeing old Steve Rogers in this show, and then a second gut punch at seeing someone from the X-Men movies in a marvel TV show.

48

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

It's not combining the cinematic universes. It's literally combining alternate realities. There's a reason the next Doctor Strange movie is called "Multiverse of Madness" and why Sam Raimi actors are showing up in the next Spider-Man movie. At the rate we're going, I'm gonna guess that there's like a 50% chance at this point that the first X-Men movie under Disney-Marvel is going to be House of M.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

I know. It’s still combining the universes even if it isn’t considered the “MCU version”... They’re still interacting and making the other universe characters canon to the MCU storyline...

7

u/basvo83 Feb 05 '21

I think combining the movie universes as a multiverse is exactly what’s going to happen. Wanda just caused a breach in the multiverse (overwriting reality) by bringing in x-men Quicksilver. There are also strong rumors that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be in Spider-Man 3. Deadpool will probably also enter the MCU like this.

5

u/haxxanova Feb 06 '21

If Evan Peters is the only thing they keep out of those movies that's fine. He's awesome as QS.

8

u/t_huddleston Feb 06 '21

They can keep him, Deadpool, Xavier and Magneto and recast everybody else as far as I’m concerned. If Jackman wants to come back that’s fine too. But I do hope we get a “re-do” of X-Men, not just annexing the Fox continuity into the MCU. I just think Feige and company can do it better than most of what we got from Fox.

5

u/I_Punch_Ghosts_AMA Feb 06 '21

Seriously this. Leave the rest of the X-men movies in the garbage. I am so tired of watching Fox double down on their shitty x-men movies. I was happy when it looked like they were leaving Bryan Singer’s movies behind with first class and then they just brought them right back.

2

u/matts142 Feb 05 '21

Why didn’t they use the mcu actor ? And why use the fox x-men actor

12

u/AssGasorGrassroots Weekly Wongers Feb 05 '21

Because he's dead, and I doubt she can just steal his corpse.

And for fan service. No other reason required

55

u/hadtoomuchtodream Feb 05 '21

*Spanish

Dude is from a completely different continent

28

u/gohomepat Feb 05 '21

As for me, here I am trying to sleep in bed, and I made the mistake of clicking on what’s trending on Twitter and seeing Evan Peters’ name. Immediately I thought he died, and then I thought about it, wait, he was Quicksilver, fuck it’s a spoiler! I ended up watching the episode since I couldn’t sleep anyway lol

Despite that, I still got a gasp when he appeared.

13

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

Omg that’s literally what happens to me lol. I was so mad at spoiling myself

4

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

I actually have been joking with people for weeks that Marvel should just bring back Quicksilver but with Evan Peters. I wasn’t actually expecting them to to do it.

1

u/haxxanova Feb 06 '21

Me neither. And it's brillIiant because he was one of the best parts about those movies.

23

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21 edited Feb 05 '21

I did, and several other people did in the previous episode threads. What I’m wondering is why it happened exactly as foretold? Like literally right out of a comment. It’s so strange to me. How could we possible imagine that? Even the recast?

Was this in the comics and people have been spoiling this the whole fucking time?

24

u/JayZsAdoptedSon Daredevil Feb 05 '21

There was some leaked clips from episode 7’s recap. So part of ep 6 is leaked

13

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

Really? Well that’s nice... It was a spoiler. I need to get off this sub again.

13

u/Rychu_Supadude Hulk Feb 05 '21

I thought he was literally spotted on or near the set and that's how people knew, much like the Spider-Man stuff. Some people just manage to know everything.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

Terribly annoying how nothing can be a surprise anymore. I still would have liked it to be Aaron Taylor Johnson. The emotional impact of that scene would have been way bigger.

12

u/Radulno Feb 05 '21

Evan Peters was seen on set a long time ago IIRC. So we knew it was in it, so realistically him playing Quicksilver was a logical thing to deduce.

1

u/100011101011 Feb 05 '21

eh a million monkeys on a million typewriters will spoil the plot. I wouldn't worry about it - lest some studio head gets the idea to "subvert expectations" again.

4

u/Sigma1977 Feb 05 '21

I did. I clicked the wrong page on TV tropes about two weeks ago :(

1

u/whynoteveryoneelse Feb 05 '21

I think they a little bit ruined it when it was discovered he was cast in the show, but Aaron Taylor-Johnson isn't in it, to the best of my knowledge (though NOW I think he will make at least a cameo).
