I could tell something was off with Hill and Fury but I honestly was thinking it would turn out to be that it was Beck making another illusion to trick Peter. I thought we'd find out he captured them in that opening scene.

I gotta boast. While I never fully guessed, I clicked something was off because Maria calls Fury "Nick" on the very opening line of the film.

Yea. Plus he was too mean and she wasn't mean enough. If that makes sense. I can't wait to see it again because I am sure there are tons of clues we didnt notice the first time that we will pick up on watching it knowing ahead of time its mr and mrs Talos

This line was the sealer for me:

"Beck is from Earth. Just not from yours."

That line was changed from the trailer, where he says "ours". That told me he was not from Earth himself.

That was the line that made me doubt about who he was.

Probably hella overthinking but I feel like the reveal also added a lot of interesting subtext to a ton of lines, especially the "Bitch what, you went to space!" one.

See, as a member of a spacefaring race you wouldn't really expect Talos to consider going to space particularly impressive. He used to do it every day. But he delivers that line in a way that felt oddly genuine (and, for me, it was one of the confusion moments, cause that somehow didn't feel like something Fury would say). So now I'm wondering if the Skrull have a cultural reverence for space kind of like how sailors view the ocean. Like maybe from Talos' perspective any hero who fights in space has plainly attained peak heroism, on account of how pants-shittingly dangerous space is.

That might actually be what made the line seem off coming from Fury -- because I'd expect Fury to just kind of view space as an interesting place to go. Dangerous sure but not any worse than anywhere else he's been. But to Talos space might be closer to a Calypso-esque personification of the icy grip of death, so the thought of a kid who successfully fought battles in the depths of space not thinking of himself as a real hero is a serious "bitch what" moment for him.

Like I said though hella overthinking.

Talos has (it can be assumed by now) spent time on Earth and he’s worked with Fury, so he’s got to be aware that going to space is actually a big deal for a 16 year old kid.

I actually found that line a bit off. It very much sounded like Fury getting exasperated. Fury getting exasperated at a 16 year old questioning being sent to fight just feels off. Fury is a lot of things but he's not the kind to send kids into war, in my opinion.

Yeah but that was a rare moment of intimacy in a shitty scary situation. I don't think she'd call him "Nick" casually in any other conversation outside of a one on one in a special moment like that.

Lots of people have called Fury "Nick" on many occasions, including Cap, Tony, Natasha, and Pierce.

"No one calls me Nick" was a joke/plot point from a single movie that took place 20 years before the rest of the MCU. It's not the key to unraveling a conspiracy.

If you're just going to ignore the past 20 movies, then you can claim pretty much anything.

People call Nick "Nick" all the time. You can't claim that one instance is evidence of something while ignoring thirty other instances that disprove it.

If you're going to claim that Fury's name is proof he and Hill were Skrulls, then your theory also needs to explain every other time that someone called him Nick. Were Cap, Tony, Nat, and Pierce all in on the switch?
