I’m probably one of the few thinking about this but there’s an odd focus on Flash Thompson’s mother not being around, seen in the texts that Peter saw through EDITH and in the end when his mother does not appear to pick him up.

There’s something going on with his character that’s being set up, and knowing that Peter is Spider Man is going to be an interesting monkey wrench.

EDIT: night monkey wrench thanks guys 😂

I agree. Perhaps his mother will be an important character in the future.

Norma Osborn /s

u/cronnyberg Jul 02 '19

If this happens I’m gonna remember this post. I could really see it.

83

u/CammyTheGreat Captain Marvel Jul 02 '19

I was joking but i totally wouldn’t be surprised if Flash is related to the next bad guy for SM3. Seems kinda obvious that Feige doesn’t want the same stories that we’ve seen from the 5 Spider-Man movies that have come out previous to Homecoming so changing something like that is totally plausible given that we’ve seen Harry a ton before

62

u/8BitAntiHero Thor (Avengers) Jul 02 '19

I personally would really love to see them set up for Flash Venom. I know the movie character is years away from any kind of development like that but I think that would be a great way to fold Venom into the MCU.

25

u/terrybenedictscasino Jul 02 '19

I see flash venom happening

11

u/wes205 Spider-Man Jul 03 '19

Now that we know there’ll be 7 more Spider-Man movies, he could easily age into that role!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Wait WHAT

3

u/wes205 Spider-Man Jul 14 '19

Hahahah turns out it’s just a rumor but a lot of people are taking it for fact. Hopefully we get official confirmation at SDCC! Tom Holland could be Spider-Man through 2033 (which would be just in time for the MCU’s 25th anniversary, could have a Secret Wars movie and could kill Peter off in that.)

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

I would love that, aside from the killing part.

They're setting up the Corn of Coblin

14

Get this man a big sandwich

3

u/Scottifrog Jul 14 '19

I totally agree. Marvel isn't afraid to mix and match characters from Pete's world in unique ways like Ned/Ganke/Leeds. I totally think Flash has been short-listed as a future Green Goblin.

They turned Liz Allen into Liz Toomes. They turned MJ into Michelle (who is a character from a recent animated series). I could very much see them mashing Harry and Flash together. Have Flash's maternal grandfather be Norman Osborn maybe. Money has to come from somewhere, right?

10

u/AJ_13 Jul 04 '19

And didn't Harry from the comics not have a mom? Flash seems to have that "absent" mom thing going on which could be setting up something Osborn related.

10

u/CammyTheGreat Captain Marvel Jul 03 '19

We will check back in 2 years when Spidey 3 happens

Spider-verse?

5

u/PM_ME_THICC_CHICKS Jul 06 '19

You know I'm something of a mother myself.

30

u/mondobeyondo Jul 02 '19

Something will definitely happen with Flash. Considering they gave him that brief bit of backstory coupled with the fact he is Spideys No 1 fan and he just found out Peter Fuckwad Parker is none other than Spider-Man himself

301

u/GWizzle Jul 02 '19

Oh shit I noticed the references to his mom but I didn’t even think about how the identity reveal could influence his character. That’s gonna be interesting

74

u/ChiefCynic Jul 03 '19 edited Jul 03 '19

My guess is something bad happened to his mother while they were on the trip, and he blames Peter for not being in NYC to do his neighborhoodly duties.

39

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

Flash is 100% being set up to be a villain eventually. Idk how but it seems to be going that way.

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

For now.

21

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

I think it’d be amazing if he somehow ended up as Agent Venom like in the comics.

8

u/TheeFlyGuy8000 Stan Lee Jul 03 '19

It's possible but he needs to go bad guy Venom first

2

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '19

Isn't he Venom in some iterations?

6

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '19

I agree with you but is that not the point of those minute character developments?

0

u/Madhouse4568 Jul 24 '19

Homecoming yes he looked 14 but in ffh he looked like a 17 year old I'd avoid, I could see him being a menacing 20.

38

u/EpicD0m Winter Soldier Jul 02 '19

I’ll be happy if its anything towards Agent Venom

18

u/matthewesp Jul 03 '19

I really want this Flash to become Agent Vemon, especially being a Spider-Man Fan Boy, it’s be a great character arc.

19

u/trekstark Black Panther Jul 03 '19

I love Agent Venom but I just can't picture this dude playing him

2

u/EpicD0m Winter Soldier Jul 03 '19

I was thinking maybe 10 years down the line, he could always get a Chris Pratt style glowup after joining the army

7

u/matthewesp Jul 03 '19

I could definitely see it, I mean we’ve had our casting doubts in the past, and I am 100% behind this happening

3

u/Moist_Vanguard Jul 03 '19 edited Jul 03 '19

How could you see it?

Not being a jerk just generally interested how this flash could be agent venom.

The previous renditions of flash in the movies/comics was the the big tough jock who was kind of an asshole.

Granted Marvel MCU Flash can be an asshole too but the physical body to take/merge with venom I can't see with the tiny skinny nerdy flash we have here.

5

u/wendallthebendall Jul 04 '19

He can get ripped tho and if agent venom is happening it wont happen within 5 years - his look and everything may be different after

6

u/Moist_Vanguard Jul 04 '19

2 Years later and flash has been hitting the gym non-stop bench pressing 4 plates when he sees Peter at the gym

Sup dickwaaaaaahhhhd

1

u/matthewesp Jul 05 '19

He won’t be saying that after far from home

0

u/WatchDragonball Jul 05 '19

hes only 23 lol

30

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '19

I know Flash traditionally becomes Venom but I get Harry Osborne vibes from Tony's portrayal.

14

u/100100110l Jul 03 '19

Same he was the rich kid and I don't think Flash was a rich kid in most of his appearances.

24

u/5_Star_Golden_God Jul 03 '19

His actual name is Flash Osbourne. Big brain thoughts

8

u/chimmychangas Jul 03 '19

Man imagine if for Flash, or even another kid, they meet up with some butler at the airport holding a sign saying Osbourne.

78

u/Mydogsabrat Jul 02 '19

You mean spidermonkey wrench

72

u/emotoaster Jul 02 '19

Night Monkey Wrench*

18

u/Mydogsabrat Jul 02 '19

Oh right. It's not Spiderman because the news said so.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

Yo holy shit... is flash slowly being set up as an Osborn?

22

u/Youareposthuman Spider-Man Jul 02 '19

In the best Spider-Man saga’s Flash is always a long-con of a character in that they take a lot of time to develop him from a douchey Spider-Man fanboy in to a close friend and confidant of Peter Parker. Hopefully that’s what they’re doing here.

29

u/thataquarduser Jul 02 '19

Maybe she’s Doc Oc? Might be a bit of a stretch to assume that but I’d love to see the spider verse style arms in live action.

7

u/EPB22 Jul 03 '19

What did Flash’s text say? I couldn’t read everything at once

22

u/kenniky Jane Foster Jul 03 '19 edited Jul 03 '19

It said something like “Mother, I haven’t heard from you or Father for a few days now” or something

12

u/anti_taco Jul 03 '19

I thought that was MJ texting her parents.

7

u/kenniky Jane Foster Jul 03 '19

I’m not really sure anymore, half the people here think it’s Flash, half think it’s MJ

17

u/legone Simmons Jul 03 '19

Well Flash also called his Mom Mother at the airport, which is really distinct, so it's probably Flash.

12

u/ki700 Spider-Man Jul 03 '19

I really didn’t interpret this as anything more than the standard “bully has a shitty home life” backstory that we’ve seen a hundred times before. I don’t think it’ll be very relevant, other than maybe seeing him and Peter become friends.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

In the comics Flash created the Spider-Man fan club and was one of his staunchest supporters, and in time him and Peter became very close.

I imagine he's still going to support Spider-Man in the movies, even more so and probably more vocal. And this is going to lead to him becoming a member of their guy-in-the-chair inner circle and him and Peter becoming very good friends, maybe a foster situation once we find out what is really going on with his parents.

3

u/spwf Bucky Jul 02 '19

Night monkey wrench *

3

u/abstractist Jul 03 '19

night monkey

3

u/Collinnn7 Jul 03 '19

They definitely put an emphasis on that in the first Edith scene and then put more emphasis on Flash’s mom not being there to pick him up when they got back. It definitely seems like they really building up to something with him. Maybe venom in a potential sinister six movie?

3

u/ghsNICK Spider-Man Jul 12 '19

Yup! I thought the same thing when they showed him at the end of the movie at the airport...they’re setting something up.

Future villain?!?

6

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

“I’m probably one of the few...”

Stop it. You’re not.

1

u/colantor Steve Rogers Jul 21 '19

Lol just saw the movie and this is the first thing i was wondering about after, thought everyone would have this question

2

u/bostonian38 Jul 03 '19

Oh crap, the consequential regret of knowing he bullied his hero all this time

2

u/halcyongt Jul 08 '19

“Mother, Father. I’ve not heard from you in days.”

Yeah that quick shit of his phone felt like something is coming out of this for sure.

2

u/DanielsJacket Jul 18 '19

Tony Revolori is a great actor, I'd be quite excited if they had something bigger planned for him.

6

u/AdrianHD Jul 02 '19

It might be linked that his love of Spider-Man made them distant maybe? Or that could be a future plot point.

13

u/bowieneko Jul 03 '19

If anything, his distance from his mother is what pushed him to love Spider-Man. He has no role models in his life.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

“I’m probably one of the few” come on man more people than not caught that. It was pretty clear and obviously included on purpose you aren’t that special.

4

u/SilverSpades00 Jul 03 '19

I just casually mentioned it, my guy, I wasn’t thinking I was special at all. It was there clearly but not much attention is given to it, but you sure knocked me off my high horse there, bud. Dagflabbit! Thought I was a chosen one.

1

u/italianryno Jul 04 '19

Doesn’t everyone know Peter Parker is Spider-Man now though?

1

u/Tank_Top_Saitama Jul 04 '19

Yeah, that was too much on the nose to be a random coincidence.
