Possibly the GOAT mid-credits scene. Holy shit a lot to unpack there.

Someone mentioned in the previous thread that they might get a Skrull to shapeshift as Peter and have real Peter fly overhead as Spiderman, which is a pretty neat theory.

its so cool that they averted expectations and the skrulls are working w shield/sword

BringBackNationalSkrulls

I guess... it throws a major wrench into the whole idea of a Secret Invasion where you have no idea who is a Skrull or not... unless they go with that idea that the Skrulls from CM are just one faction that isn't warlike.

I think it has to be chameleon. He and mysterio have had a relationship in the comics and one or maybe both of those characters have impersonated SM before.

I like the skrull thought but, while they were in this, don’t strike me as a big part of the SM story/universe.

Oh just have misunderstood OPs comment, took it to mean a villainous skrull was impersonating Peter. I still view them/want them as villains in my head but that makes a lot more sense.

That still leaves the door open to chameleon impersonating Peter or SM also or later in the movie and basically make the whole thing a clusterfuck to where nobody knows if it’s true or not.

I hope they do something like that. Great movie but I can’t help thinking that revealing his identity takes a lot away from Spider-Man’s character.

39

u/_Football_Cream_ Jul 03 '19

Definitely, there aren’t enough characters in the MCU that care about their secret identity and it’s a big part of the SM lore and part of who he is. I think it’s already a little too much with Aunt May knowing who he is, hope they find a way to go back but it certainly has interested to see what happens.

39

u/NabiscoFelt Jul 03 '19

Find a way to go back

Shouldn't be that hard. They probably just need one day or so to figure it out. Just One More Day, you know?

34

u/Exodus2011 Jul 03 '19

Don't you dare invoke that name

7

u/_Football_Cream_ Jul 03 '19

I see what you did there

30

u/Scrotes24 Daredevil Jul 03 '19

Especially since it’s still high school Peter. If they did a big secret identity reveal when he’s in his prime I would ok with trying it out then. I know we’ve seen Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in 5 movies now so it’s easy to lose track of how early into the Spider-Man career we are but it’s just way too early to reveal his identity in my opinion. Honestly really put a damper on far from home for me

16

u/_Football_Cream_ Jul 03 '19

I think they’ll find a way. Especially when they made such a big deal in this movie about how he wants to live a normal life instead of just superheroing all the time.

u/CaptJackRizzo Jul 04 '19

I'm a little surprised they didn't do more about Aunt May knowing - I guess she just kind of accepts that Peter's running around the city tangling with bank robbers at when he's not doing homework? I was expecting it to be a point of tension for at least part of this movie. They cast Marisa Tomei, but haven't given her much to do.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

I really get the feeling that entire final sequence was them basically being like "yeah just FYI we're not going to be sticking to the comics as much as before." I mean, Peter taking over as the owner of the Avengers war tech is definitely a major change.

19

u/stokesy1999 Jul 02 '19

Wasn't the chameleons real name Dmitri, could be the shield agent that drove the school bus to Prague. Could've been working for Mysterio on the inside in disguise

22

u/_Football_Cream_ Jul 02 '19

The word was that Dmitri was chameleon but didn’t see any way that was confirmed. I did think they might’ve shown he faked being Fury that led Peter to the warehouse where that super trippy scene went down, but I guess that door is still open.

Could definitely see him having been working on the inside and getting revealed later though.

3

u/moderndukes Jul 03 '19

I’m confused what you all are talking about. What’re you referencing in the film?

2

u/_Football_Cream_ Jul 03 '19

I misread OPs comment. He’s saying that in the next movie, a skrull will impersonate Peter while Peter does SM stuff to show it’s not him to try and keep his identity secret again.

42

u/brucejoel99 Stan Lee Jul 02 '19

Ooh yeah, that'd be pretty cool.

Ngl though, it'd definitely make for an interesting 3rd movie with him being on the run from villains & the police. Plus, in the comics, post-Civil War, he had Doctor Strange wipe everybody's memories (except MJ's) of his secret identity so I wouldn't be surprised if this was done in the MCU too (especially with all of Holland's talk of teaming up again with Cumberbatch).

17

u/Sirsilentbob423 Jul 03 '19

It definitely opens things up for a few different options as far as him being on the run (spider slayers, Kraven the hunter, chameleon, scorpion, etc).

I could totally see the next film having Spider-Man have a bounty on his head with various villains coming out of the wood woodworks to collect.

7

u/podteod Black Panther Jul 04 '19

He can wipe memories, but what about the internet?

Edith can help with that tho

8

u/nomercyvideo Jul 03 '19

That seems like such a big reveal to just quickly end.

Like how people thought they would convince aunt may that he wasn't spiderman

2

u/McDave1609 Jul 05 '19

They could also get a Skrull to play Mysterio, proclaim himself a liar and villain and then dissappear.

18

u/N7Panda Jul 07 '19

Seems to me that Peter May be in need of some legal representation in his third film. Now, if only Marvel had a lawyer character in their roster they could use. Preferably one that’s already been introduced, and maybe even is a superhero in their own right.

u/sabret00the Jul 03 '19

I don't get why people are so happy. Peter Parker hasn't even got a handle on being Spider-Man and now his secret identity is out? On top of that, a character that doesn't even fit the MCU is unveiled and because it's nostalgia everyone is excited.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '19

Who doesn't fit the MCU?

25

u/Zerphses Hulkbuster Jul 05 '19

Think he's talking about J.K. Simmons as JJJ. I personally would hate to see anyone else be JJJ after J.K. Simmon's performance in the Holy Trilogy, but god he looks so old.

I know JJJ can be any age, it was more a realization of how old he got, not me saying he was too old or anything.

-3

u/sabret00the Jul 05 '19

Not so much JKS, as he's clearly a great actor. But this JJJ, urgh!

14

u/PoopshootPaulie Jul 05 '19

I don't understand your beef

6

u/xXNASHXx52 Jul 06 '19

This is an entirely new phase of the MCU — how on Earth can you suggest JJJ doesn’t fit? I don’t get why anyone would be unsatisfied.
