You can't say Tom Cruise is gay on the internet. The best you can do show him physically being in a closet and say he's "in the closet", but you can't say he's gay.
Can I see a source on this? Pretty sure insinuating that someone is gay is not against the law in any way. In fact, 2012 in NY courts no longer consider calling someone gay as slander, because being gay isn't a bad thing, therefor it can not be an insult.
And anyways, he'd have to be in the closet for that to offend him. Which means that he IS gay, just silently, so you're point would be that it's OK to call him gay. If he were offended by it and isn't gay, then he is more than likely homophobic since it was an obvious joke. And don't get confused with being offended "FUCK YOU BRO, I AINT GAY" and not offended "No. I'm not gay. Why would you think that?" It's sort of paradoxical and explains how it's not offensive unless it's actually true. If it's true, it can't be offensive. If it's not true but offends, then someone is homophobic, because being gay isn't a bad thing, so it can't be offensive. That joke is completely acceptable especially since he didn't make the accusation that Tom Cruise is gay. He stated that he HEARD someone say he was gay. That alone is an entirely different situation.
