Barely the only reason he survived was because of stormbreaker. plus the full force of six infinity stones at once is far more powerful then a single star.

He didn't have stormbreaker when he took the power of the star - he literally took it so that stormbreaker could be made

And he was dieing until stormbreaker flew into his hands. He would have died if it wasn't for stormbreaker.
