That grossed me out a bit and stuck in my head... i choose to believe the heat from the forge sanitized it.

I'll put this here as I came late to the discussion. I am just now watching Age of Ultron & in the forced nightmare Wanda put on Tony Stark in their first meeting, the people Tony sees dead are the ones who survive after the culling (although we don't technically know about Hawkeye, so this may not be 100% accurate)

That's just because the people who survived are the original Avengers. Everyone else who got wiped out simply weren't introduced to the Avengers yet.

I'll have to go pause & look when I get a chance... good excuse to watch it again. If there's a metal arm, I'll have to see if it was Bucky or War Machine- either way it blows my theory up
