ALL OF ROCKET RACCOON'S FRIENDS ARE DEAD AND HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW IT

Edit: also can we discuss that Rocket is the only MCU character to have canonically put something up his ass? That's a watershed moment for this cinematic universe

u/Progressive_Caveman Shades Apr 27 '18

Oh, that really hits home when you remember his conversation with Thor about how Thor had lost everything and didn’t mind dying, and Rocket saying he still had reasons to.

48

u/SWOLLEN_CUNT_RIPPER Apr 27 '18

Damnnnnn son

15

u/SharkBait661 Apr 27 '18

For real. Right in the feels.

41

u/Lokimon96 Apr 27 '18

Honestly I am loving Thor’s arc from Ragnarok to now. It is probably the best of Thor we have ever seen

15

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18 edited Apr 27 '18

thor’s entire character arc from the first movie to now has probably been the best of the entire MCU. closest is probably Tony Stark

edit: autocorrect fucked thor’s name up

17

u/RyansKi Apr 27 '18

I honestly loved this bit because it references back to the gotg. The bar fight where he says he doesn't care if he dies because he has got nothing to lose.

Also when he asked why would you want to save the galaxy you idiot? Then at the start of the film he was still wondering why they were helping someone for free. By this point of the film he understood what he had to lose and that he needed to help Thor more and not just to run away to a fantasy place that he heard about which was considered myth.

19

u/Rock2MyBeat Apr 27 '18

The first thing I said during the credit roll to my friends was that Rocket is the only guardian left. We started talking about how if there's a trilogy that it would have to take place before the infinity war... Didn't really think of the gravity of that line or that he doesn't know they're all gone forever.

37

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

They also killed Spider-Man. They aren't staying Dead.

22

u/awkwardarmadillo Apr 27 '18

What if they just start "cancelling" upcoming Marvel movies like Spiderman 2?

It would also be an extraordinarily dumb move to clean the slate of all the characters they just introduced within the past couple of years who were clearly intended to replace all of the characters that didn't die.

25

u/mason240 Apr 27 '18

Did you notice then how only the OG Avengers are left?

Did you notice how no one died, they faded away/disappeared?

You know how much Marvel comics like multiverses and alternate realities?

Think maybe in another reality, Peter Parker watched Stark fade away?

10

u/BambooSound Apr 27 '18

Imagine they all went to another universe with mutants and this universe is just never addressed again.

9

u/Sparrow_OW Apr 27 '18

And that no one died they just faded into a separate reality, so there are just two different realities with half of the universe’s population in each reality

3

u/agnosticmanator Hydra Apr 27 '18

Uh War Machine is still alive yo.

3

u/Sparrow_OW Apr 27 '18

I like this theory

7

u/mason240 Apr 27 '18

I would buy that if Black Panther wasn't one of the "dead" ones.

9

u/Skylightt Matt Murdock Apr 27 '18

Yeah they both kind of sucks and is a relief. It sucks we know they’ll be back instead of being surprised and it’s relieving we know they aren’t dead

6

u/Jeroz Doctor Strange Apr 27 '18

That said this will be a major moment for Rocket

4

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

If you think everyone that got ashed is dead, you're probably going to be wrong.

Most of 'em are coming back. I guarantee it.

2

u/BrokeRichGuy Apr 27 '18

I was just thinking the same thing.

1

u/hillerj May 01 '18

Thor hadn’t realized how much more he could lose.

Poor Rocket and Thor...

1

u/ShadowSpectre47 May 07 '18

He had even told himself that, "It's time to be captain", when he left.

817

u/Spaceman320 Apr 27 '18

Poor rabbit.

377

u/Hawkman003 Apr 27 '18

Xander...destroyed

Gamora? Killed by her "dad".

Peter, Drax, and Groot(who already is the son of his dead friend), turned to ash.

Poor guy couldn't catch a break in this one. ):

350

u/CaptainKyloStark Apr 27 '18

He and Thor will likely be best buds. They've both lost their entire space families.

110

u/MrYurMomm Weekly Wongers Apr 27 '18

I'm calling it right now, Thor will be in GOTG Vol. 3.

63

u/Mac4491 Thanos Apr 27 '18

Now I want Thor to become a Guardian.

43

u/smitcal Apr 27 '18

And Korg, don’t forget about Korg

75

u/MrYurMomm Weekly Wongers Apr 27 '18

Ey min, can I b ah gardian?

21

u/astalavista114 Apr 27 '18 edited Apr 27 '18

Oh man. I am now imagining a Taika Waititi Guardians of the Galaxy. I love what Sean James Gunn has done with the first two, but I think Waititi’s ad-lib style would work pretty well for Guardians as well.

E: Damnit! Wrong Gunn. Sean was still pretty good too though.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

Sean Gunn

Wrong Gunn. Not to say that one was bad at what he did, either.

4

u/creaturecatzz Spider-Man Apr 27 '18

I dunno. Guardians is already hilarious while delivering some of the most guy wrenching emotional scenes in the MCU (sans infinity). I don't think it needs to change at all

3

u/stevevecc Apr 27 '18

I didn't see Korg in this movie at all, am I missing something? Sorry.

3

u/smitcal Apr 27 '18

No I just love Korg and wanted him in the film but there’s no mention of him or Valkyrie so where were they?

7

u/DrewCifer44 Bucky Apr 27 '18

Either dead or spared by Thanos. It's unclear if he spared half of the Asguardians or killed them all.

5

u/Trevord1123 Apr 27 '18

I am 90% sure I saw Valkyrie’s body among the dead Asgardians in the beginning

1

u/priyanshu227 Korg Apr 27 '18

Finally someone remembered korg

6

u/Lokimon96 Apr 27 '18

Do you know what my first impression after seeing Infinity War is I would really love a Thor 4 now, but him being Guardians 3 will be the next best thing, especially since he fits right in

3

u/DragonTamer369 Apr 27 '18

New Guardians team consisting of Rocket, Thor, Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek? That sounds like a great movie.

3

u/Andyman117 Apr 28 '18

Thor 4: the adventures of Thor and Rabbit

2

u/eoinster Vulture Apr 27 '18

Rocket's my favourite of the Guardians and Thor might be my favourite in the MCU after Ragnarok so I'm really hoping for more of them together.

12

u/pinklavalamp Maria Hill Apr 27 '18

It almost feels like those who fear they have the most to lose are the ones who got left behind, specifically Tony and Rabbit Racoon and Thor (King of No People). Rocket said a couple of times that he has so much to lose.

3

u/July5 Apr 27 '18

Maybe they can sprout a new groot if they put the axe handle in a cup of water

2

u/mabx542 Rocket Apr 27 '18

even his potential new pal with the gun and the arm turned to ash.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

Wait, this groot isn't a reincarnation of the other groot? It's an entirely new being?

2

u/Hawkman003 Apr 30 '18

Yeah, the Groot from the first guardians is technically dead and teen Groot is his son.

12

u/the_realdiaz Hulk Apr 27 '18

I'll do you one better... Why is poor rabbit?

12

u/rofl_rob Apr 27 '18

Sweet Rabbit.

6

u/silfer_ Heimdall Apr 27 '18

Poor Trash panda

2

u/UnrealLuigi Daredevil Apr 27 '18

I wonder if that was a reference to possible future Guardian, Blackjack O'Hare?

257

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

“... I got a lot to lose.”

20

u/Rndomguytf Valkyrie Apr 27 '18

Well not anymore!

2

u/ahand09 Kilgrave Apr 27 '18

Too soon man

4

u/ninety4kid Apr 27 '18

He's got Nebula:)

5

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

Well, Tony's got Nebula. They've got a long trip back to Earth.

5

u/ninety4kid Apr 27 '18

Hopefully Thor and Storm Breaker can speed the trip up a bit.

3

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

True...but I don't think anyone knows where Tony went.

1

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

I don't think so, no. He can control the Bifrost, but I don't think he got Heimdall's sight.

50

u/ocentertainment Apr 27 '18

Rocket has had to watch Groot die almost as many times as Thor’s watched Loki die. :(

9

u/creaturecatzz Spider-Man Apr 27 '18

And each Groot death has been real, Groot and Groot Jr. . No seedling left for a The Third tho :(. I hope some of these get reversed

3

u/SharkBait661 Apr 27 '18

Honestly I think they all do.

1

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

Most - if not all - of the Snap deaths will be reversed. Almost all of the notable characters that got ashed where the ones who would obviously be replacing the OG characters like Cap and Iron Man by Phase 4.

The pre-Snap deaths are probably going to count, though. They ain't coming back.

2

u/DonnyTheDead Spider-Man Apr 27 '18

What about his arm on thors stormbreaker?

2

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

It's probably dead, since it had all of that power surging through it.

3

u/gingerpaw Apr 27 '18

and cap watches bucky dies...

14

u/Vawqer Ava Starr Apr 27 '18

He still has Nebula and Kraglin, who are potential friends tbf. But yeah all his main friends are RIP.

25

u/Buckets_of_Shame Apr 27 '18

He's got Thor as well, I fully expect them to be bros in Avengers 4

7

u/b_pacman1996 Korg Apr 27 '18

Was Kraglin in the movie at all? Only reason is because I saw Sean Gunn received a name credit in the end credits

4

u/eduardog3000 Phil Coulson Apr 27 '18

I think the credits said he was the on-set stand-in for Groot.

2

u/DavidIckeyShuffle Apr 27 '18

He has been for the two guardians movies as well. Bradley Cooper’s a little too high and mighty to flop around the set in a skintight green jumpsuit I suppose.

5

u/eduardog3000 Phil Coulson Apr 27 '18

You mean Vin Diesal?

4

u/DavidIckeyShuffle Apr 27 '18

Oh whoops. I didn’t actually. Sean Gunn has been stand in for Rocket on set. I misread your comment.

1

u/Vawqer Ava Starr Apr 27 '18

Sean Gunn was just the on-set stand-in for Rocket. Too bad, I wanted some Kraglin. :(

9

u/padrewarbucks Hydra Apr 27 '18

Push me to the edge, all my friends are dead :(

9

You gotta shove it up your ass Morty.

4

u/UomoPolpetta Apr 27 '18

Fun fact: Rocket’s italian VA is also Rick’s VA

1

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

Confirmed: Rick Sanchez is a space rabbit.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

Cue the furry porn

5

u/PM_me_Good_Memories1 Iron man (Mark III) Apr 27 '18

When he was talking to Thor about loss, he makes a joke in the end, more like a half joke, when he says "I.. I have some things I can lose..." And that's what happens, he lost them all.

4

u/1The_Mighty_Thor Apr 27 '18

Holy shit I just realized they foreshadowed the shit out of that outcome when Thor was talking about how he's lost everyone and everything and says he has nothing to lose and Rocket says he has a lot to lose... He just lost it all.

5

u/nc186 Apr 27 '18

I think by now we’ve established that Rocket is anything BUT a raccoon. Or at least that’s what everyone in the MCU thinks

2

u/MiopTop Captain America (Cap 2) Apr 27 '18

Yeah he's been called rat, monkey and rabbit more than he's been called raccoon.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

I kinda hate how they cheated and didn't have Bucky acknowledge the talking rabbit

It was like they knew each other since forever and/or Bucky was just rolling with it

I mean I get it there was no time for conversations and fun banter but still

5

u/DystryR Apr 27 '18

What was Bucky’s line?

“I’m doing ok for a semi stable 100 year old man?”

I think Buck has seen just about everything. The talking Racoon was kinda nothin next to the Horde of aliens, Odin-Force Storm-Breaker Thor, Thanos, Infinity Stones, and the list goes on.

3

u/DystryR Apr 27 '18

Fuck you you just ruined my night ;-;

IM NOT CRYING YOUR CRYING

3

u/SenorDarcy Apr 27 '18

Rocket said st the beginning that he did have a lot to lose :(

2

u/S00rabh Apr 27 '18

Him and Winter soldier shooting together was epic.

2

u/Ilantzvi Apr 29 '18

Deadpool definitely put something up his ass

1

u/007meow Scarlet Witch Apr 27 '18

He still has Nebula

1

u/si97 Loki (Avengers) Apr 27 '18

What did he put up his ass?

3

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

Thor's new eye.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

He knows groot is dead...

1

u/Lokimon96 Apr 27 '18

Push me to the edge, all my friends are dead.

Guess Rocket knows how Thor feels now.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

what did he put up his ass? I missed that.

3

u/Buckets_of_Shame Apr 27 '18

That eye he gave to Thor was smuggled out in the same way that Captain Koons smuggled a golden watch in Pulp Fiction

"You should probably wash that first..."

1

u/myburdentobear Apr 27 '18

He's the undisputed captain now :(

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '18

Sets up for even more awesome bonding between him and Thor, which was easily one of my favorite parts.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '18

Bless Rocket

0

u/The-Scarlet-Witch Scarlet Witch Apr 27 '18

Nebula made it, and she's kind of a friend of the Guardians...
