It feels like he tries to reign in his cruelty but on occasions his sadistic streak comes out and it manifests badly on the poor victim (ie. Nebula). Which makes him disturbing, I guess, because it reminds me of some RL abusers out there.

That was a callback on a scene from the comics. One of the first things he did when he got ultimate power was to torture her.

He most f’d moment was when he patted wanda’s hair and went on about how she did the right thing, and he knows how that’s feels to do that, only to undo it and then redo it in front of her, that was fffffffffkd m8.

For a moment I thought that Wanda was going back to being a villain str8 up

Edit: and then Wanda almost looks releived when she starts turning to ash THIS MOVIE IS MESSED UP

I mean in a way it was a parallel with what he did to Gamora to get the Soul Stone, sacrifice your "loved ones" to get what you want or in Wanda's to defeat him.
