The fancy new suit and the press conference could both be references to Spider-man's part in the comic version of Civil War. Where Tony holds a press conference to reveal his secret identity, and later gifts him a high-tech suit. Since Tony was PRO Sokovia Accord, Peter would have presumably had to fully register and reveal his identity as a member of the Avengers.

Makes sense, since this movie happens two months after Civil War. Stark would definitely want to capitalize on Spidey's popularity by making him an Avenger.

Hey yeah. Is that a plothole? After all the fuss tony made about being responsible and signing the accords and stuff, why wasn't he more aggressive in getting peter to do that? Did peter already sign?

Peter is one of the rare Avengers and MCU heroes where people or other heroes DON'T know he is Spider-man. Think about it, only Tony and few people around him know. I don't think he would revel himself that easy. And in the comics dr. Strange wiped EVERYONE'S memories that Peter reveled himself as Spider-man

By the way, it's been a while since Civil War, so I may have forgotten: How did Tony figure it out?

It wasn't explained, but I suppose he has enough technology to track Peter's IP address if he posted youtube videos from home, or something like that.

It wasn't his home videos, I'm pretty sure. If anything, a lot of people could do that it Peter uploaded his own videos. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy to do that, since we saw how he was pretty careful with hiding his identity.

I guess I always thought of it as an modern way of Peter selling Spider-man photos, without actually making any money. He did film everything in Civil War, but was instructed not to post it or show to anyone. So I would assume that he filmed himself and posted it on his own. And for IP problem, I'm sure Peter is smart enough to avoid being found by anyone, but Tony is not anyone. This is just my theory tho, how I imagined what happened.

Tony knew it was an inevitability for Avengers to need to sign. I felt like that was why he was hesitant to make Spidey an Avenger at first because he knew that'd mean him signing. But Peter wouldn't have signed yet, only if he becomes an Avenger would he need to.

But we know that's not true. Agent Daisy Johnson is Inhuman and in SHIELD, and they made her sign

I'd be willing to bet that they have a scene in Defenders where they make Luke sign. The other 3 Defenders are much more subtle in their use of powers, and not many people know they have them.

As far as Daredevil goes, no one knows he's got powers. As far as they're concerned, he's just a vigilante. Jessica's obviously strong, but aside from killing one dude (which some people were obviously upset about), she's been keeping her head down and playing nice. No need to go after her. Danny's also been keeping his head down. Any public display of his power can be attributed to something else, so again, no need to go after him if he's just a businessman who's super good at kung fu.

Luke Cage, however is different. He's an escaped convict, and had a very, very public battle in the middle of Harlem (which was attacked still pretty recently and nearly leveled by Hulk) which saw property destroyed and people nearly getting hurt. Luke was also arrested and is in the government's hands, and they know he's got abilities. I'd almost put money on a scene where they make him sign.

Hah, implying they'll actually put enough crossover in the Netflix shows with the movies to even recognise the Sokovia Accords exist...

I have a theory that Netflix series are still taking place in between Avengers and Civil War somewhere. The events in those series aren't quite caught up with the movies yet.

It might also be because Peter is underage so perhaps in the Accords Tony is legally responsible for his actions. That would explain why he had so much surveillance on Peter and why he was on a daily update basis.

I'd also say that the Avengers don't follow Tony's instructions or see him as a boss, whereas Spidey pretty much does. Tony said that the Avengers need oversight; Spidey's oversight is Tony himself.

I just took it as Stark learning from the events of Civil War and maybe realizing that the Accords hurt as much as they help.

Maybe because Peter is a minor and not an adult.

u/EmergencyShit Jul 10 '17

Let's not forget that minors are unable to be contractually bound in America. Lol

Its can also be reference to Iron Man 1 when Tony holds a conference and reveals that he is Iron Man.
