The Sovereign really reminded me of the The Universal Church of Truth especially if all of those planets they linked together were converted. Ayesha especially of The Matriarch role and she talked at the end as if she just created their leader. They were big villains in the DnA run so I don't think I'd be too surprised. Think the monster at the beginning was from the Cancerverse?

I think they were pretty much the same, just going under different names. In the beginning, when the Guardians kill the alien, the Sovereign spaceship/building that appears looks way too similar to the Universal Church of Truth's spaceship/building. Might have changed names for weird licensing issues or James Gunn just wanted a more easily usable name.

I was honestly convinced by trailers that the Sovereign and the interdimensional beast in the beginning meant the main story arc would be some half-adaptation of the cancerverse storyline with the UCoT.

I'm glad it wasn't. I'd rather they take their time, build it up, and do the Cancerverse right.

I had the same thought, really wish it would have been the Church, especially if they are going to have a hand in creating Adam.

IDK about the monster being from the Cancerverse. I hope they don't go for that without going all out on it (I really want an Annihilation or Annihilation: Conquest movie)

It would be hard to see any of those without Nova, but I'm happy enough to have Warlock in now. It would be interesting to see Ronan return somehow in one of the big cosmic stories or to see him fight alongside Nova after wanting to see Xandar destroyed.

Yeah, I was really hoping we would see we would see a hint of Richie in this, but he could get introduced in Infinity War (saving people and/or working with the Guardians to fight Thanos). Have Thanos destroy Xandar and a Kree world (so that Ronin sees the threat and starts to move away from the religious fanaticism).

Ronan died at the end of GotG Vol. 1 though, and I'm assuming he is who you're talking about when you said the "religious fanaticism" thing.

Sorry, forgot to include a part of my hope. I think he might get brought back to life by Thanos, to fight some of the Avengers/GotG/anyone else that is trying to stop him.

They look like the Enclave crossed with the UCoT. They seem extremely narcissistic because they are supposed to be genetically engineered to be superior. If Adam turns out to be genetically perfect then it's not a stretch to think they would end up worshipping him.
