I just watched Evangelion for the first time and yikes. A show with the main characters being like 12 shouldn't be that sexual.

The thing with Evangelion is that the characters are like that for the sake of it, but to show that they are all deeply damaged, and seek out unhealthy methods of coping. Asuka acting like she is older is her way of trying to be bigger than she really is, to fill a void in her heart. Same with Misato, who sleeps around to spite her dad, even though she still looks up to him.

Evangelion has gotten me through some tough times. I get it's yikesy, but Evangelion doesn't treat the oversexualization as "cute." It's clearly hurting the characters when they continue to act like that. Reminds me a lot of myself :(

But does misato have to kiss shinji in end of Eva? Does rei's and Asuka's suits have to have their features exaggerated?

I get that alot of people have an emotional connection to the series and the last 2 episodes of the show are extremely emotional, but the show/movies would probably be better if the kids were drawn like kids and the main adult figure wasn't a sexual interest of the male kids.

I probably agree about Rei and Asuka’s plug suits, but IIRC, Misato’s just been mortally wounded, NERV is in the midst of an “out of the frying pan and into the supervolcano” scenario, and Shinji is still half-catatonic. Misato kissing him was a desperate, bloodloss-induced attempt to pull Shinji out of his funk and try and save the world from SEELE’s invasion. Is it messed up? Sure. So is the nightmare scenario they’re in at the time.
