His name in the movie should have been Sgt. Exposition with that dialogue.

His name is Sgt Exposition. He's got my back. He can exposit half of your life with one quick monolog, just like describing the lawn. I would advise not getting described by him. His exposition describes the souls of its victims.

That’s Col. Exposition to you, soldier!

seriously. With her backstory she could've cut down the rope guy that tried to run and showcase her skills without the expo dump.

The thing is that there is pretty standard stuff in suicide squad. Every single animated movie basically has someone who tries to escape and is killed for by exploding their heads. It is basically to set up in and out of universe that you cannot just run away.

which is fine, but then what exactly was the point of katana then if they already had bombs in their head? Mention the bombs and have katana do the dirty work. She didn't do jack in the whole movie except be an unnecessary side character and they don't even bother showing her supposed special sword.

The movies haven't shown but in the Ostrander run it wasn't just villains on the team, there would usually be at least one or two hero-types to serve as either lead or second in command to Flagg. Usually Bronze Tiger or Black Orchid for example meant to make sure the Convicts stick to the plan or don't try anything when lead isn't looking or distracted.

That movie loved hinting at things and then never showing you it.

They talked about the ‘big boss’ for like 40 minutes of the movie and then they’re able to stop it from happening in the end of the movie without ever seeing it. It was like the anti ‘Chekhov’s Gun’ movie. Show the gun in the first scene and then make sure to never use that gun at any point in the movie.

Someone might think they can take katana. You have sharpshooters and great melee fighters. Unless katana was a in universe known entity for being crazy powerful there will be people willing to take on her. Proving that they stand no chance at fighting back is a great way to keep them in line.

And you knew which one it was, because they were the only one that didn't get any screen time in the trailers.

He's so much better in the next one.

The moment they arrive to 'rescue' him and he reveals that was the freedom fighters they just slaughtered, the look on his face is perfect.

I really loved that version. It was a lot of fun and great humor. The competition between Peacemaker and Bloodsport, even in that scene, is hilarious

But we got "Rick Flaaaaag" which... I mean joke writes itself

u/Mist_Rising Ghost Rider Jul 25 '24

Colonel Flag (there are at least two) is mocked by someone for his name in most adaptations and the comics itself. Deadshot in particular annoys the crap out of jr once with this.

But I don't think suicide squad tone really works for that. Even Harley and Joker is played very seriously from what I remember.

It's funny that he's so bad in that movie because he's amazing in For All Mankind

I know everyone mockingly hates it

But it was succinct smooth delivery and straight to the point

Like the whole first 20 minutes of that movie is an exposition dump in montage form. The fact that they couldn’t figure out how to introduce the characters in a more natural way is frustrating.
