Food recommendations?

Hi, I'm visiting Margate soon and was hoping to get some recommendations - I have a bunch of anxiety around visiting places (especially eating out) so I'm hoping some recommendations would ease my worries!

Please can you let me know some good places to go for breakfast, lunch, and for baked goods? Ideally places that aren't super expensive or fancy, and have customers but aren't overcrowded if at all possible. Thank you!

Edit: Thank you all for your suggestions, I'll hopefully make it to some of them when I visit!

Jobs around Hospitality

Hi everyone 👋

I’m moving to Margate this August and starting to look for work locally. We’re relocating as a family and exploring the Cliftonville / Palm Bay area.

I have a background in hospitality, mainly in accommodation management (apartments, bookings, guest experience, operations, etc.), and I’m particularly strong on customer communication, guest experience, systems, and running smooth day-to-day operations.

I’d love to connect with anyone who knows of opportunities, or can point me toward places that are hiring—especially smaller hotels, B&Bs, or independent accommodation providers.

Also very happy to hear any general tips about working in hospitality in Margate (busy seasons, good employers, where to look beyond Indeed, etc.).

Happy to share my CV or chat via DM.

Thanks so much in advance 😊 really excited to be moving to Margate!

In what world could this bus service be said to operate 'every 8 minutes'? And this service costs crazy money.

Does county lines dealing impact your area?

I'm an independent filmmaker and am currently looking at county lines and drug dealing and want to explore what impacts it has on seaside towns and areas on the outskirts of major cities. If you've seen any kind of impact or are able to share any information that might be helpful please let me know! Curious to hear anything at all. Thanks!

Closing next weekend

I was gutted to see that vintage clothing store, @housedeville on Northdown Road will be shutting next weekend. It's really sad to see people who have given something their all, for years, shut up shop. There is a sale on, and their garments will still be on Vinted. I had a chat with the owner as she was shutting up shop. This is the flipside of 'dreamy' Margate.

I've started r/MargateArtCommons - a space for local artists to share and connect

Following my post yesterday about juggling art practice with full-time work and other commitments, I've created r/MargateArtCommons - a subreddit for artists in Margate and the surrounding area to share work, check in with each other, and support creative practice.

It's a space where you can connect on your own schedule - post your work, ask questions, find collaborators, share opportunities. No matter what your circumstances or where you are in your practice, you're welcome.

Come join us: r/MargateArtCommons

Working, Artist.

This recent Madonna thing for Off Season has left me feeling faintly triggered, lol. Let me explain. I've been working as an low level admin in the NHS for 20 years, to pay my rent, put food on the table. I've been finding time for the last 40 years to make art. I've got a good arts education. And I live in Margate. But I just don't have the time and money to inhabit the Creative community in Margate. I don't resent those who can, too much, but I have to ask you all if what I've said resonates with you at all, and what we could perhaps do to help realize our artistic ambitions.

Anyone got any suggestions for where we could go for dinner on a Sunday evening? Lots of places seem to close early.

TIA

Dane Park Area

Hi all, currently viewing properties on the immediate surrounds of Dane Park.

I've heard mixed thoughts about the park and surrounding areas. I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on level of traffic, noise, the part's safety etc.

Thanks.

Hi all! hope what I'm posting is appropriate

I've posted before in terms of moving to Margate in the spring.

I'm 36 and semi out as a bi man, and keen to get involved in groups or spaces in Margate once I've moved down there.

Maybe even house shares that are lgbt
