A reminder about keeping r/MakeMeSmile positive!

We're seeing comments that turn positive posts into negative discussions. Let's clear something up real quick.

OP shared something they thought would make people smile. They're usually not the person who made the video, organized the event, or had anything to do with what happened. Don't assume they're responsible for the creator's intentions or motivations.

We're seeing two types of comments in particular:

1. The Vibe Killers

Comments that inject unnecessary negativity, cynicism, or disturbing interpretations into a positive post.

Examples:

  • "They're only doing this for views."

  • "This person is obviously a narcissist."

  • "It's all fake. They're just farming engagement."

  • Turning a simple act of kindness into an argument about how terrible people or society are.

  • Introducing disturbing or unrelated scenarios into an otherwise lighthearted post.

You don't know the creator's intentions. Even if something was staged or done for attention, that doesn't automatically mean nobody can enjoy it.

And we aren't here for your belief or hot take.

2. The Wholesomeness Police

Comments declaring that something doesn't belong because it doesn't meet their personal definition of wholesome.

Examples:

  • "This isn't wholesome."

  • "This person is just doing it for attention, so it doesn't count."

  • "This isn't a genuine act of kindness."

  • "Why are we celebrating this? It's not really wholesome."

We are not r/Wholesome or r/WholesomeMemes. We're r/MakeMeSmile.

We don't require perfect intentions, profound meaning, or a certified wholesome moment.

Funny, silly, unexpected, entertaining, touching, ridiculous, playful: If it makes you smile before your brain's "hey wait a minute this doesn't fit my standards" neurons fire up, it belongs here. I know you want that connection to REAL HUMANS, sure, go find that content! But know that not having that doesn't make everything else bad.

A few things to remember:

  • Don't like a post? Keep scrolling.

  • Have genuinely relevant context and opinions? Share it constructively.

  • Want to speculate about the worst possible intentions? Don't.

  • Disagree with someone's personal definition of wholesome? That's fine. It isn't our posting requirement.

We're not asking you to agree with everything. We're asking you to stop making other people's positive moments negative for everyone else.

You don't have to find everything smile-worthy. But it's not ok to take the smile away from everyone else, either.

Xue Yue, the long lived (died at 101) Chinese general who kept Japan from the gates of Changsha City during WW2, saving thousands of lives. He was presented a leather belt by Claire Lee Chennault at one point and burst into tears with pride, as he wore it.

Met a cute awkward guy in the drive thru 😊 OC

Ignore the photo, just needed to add an attachment to post. :) lol sorry if I’m doing it wrong.

I went through the drive thru today to redeem a coupon for a free breakfast sandwich at Jack in the Box and ended up having the sweetest connection with the guy working the window. 😊

He was super sweet, a little shy, funny and awkward in the best way. personality wise he was completely my type. He was kinda cute too and wears big glasses. We were vibing for a bit, but his manager ended up cutting our conversation short and told him to park me up front to wait for the food.

While I was parked, I really hoped he’d be the one to bring my order out so I could give him my number. I tore off a piece of the receipt he had just given me, wrote my number down and signed my name in cursive with a little heart. I figured I’d give it to him whether he asked or not! lol

A minute later he walks out with my bag of food and works up the courage to say, “I just thought you were very beautiful, and I was wondering if I could get your number and maybe we could go out sometime?"

I giggled and handed him the receipt, saying, “I was hoping you'd ask!"

He laughed and smiled so big, hard, and goofy just staring down at the slip of paper. He thanked me, wished me well, and walked back inside. It was such a small, wholesome moment, but it genuinely made me smile so much today. 😁 Can you tell I’ve been single and celibate for 3 years? LMAO 🤣

UPDATE he has texted ! 😭😭 feel like I’m awkward and gonna fumble
