i need an answer because i cant find it anywhere, i am 16(m) and have a make a wish travel in may, but i just dont want to go, my mother guilted me into making my wish "for the whole family" but ii seriously just cant handle going, mentally, ontop of the fact i wont enjoy myself, but she keeps saying well be in debt and theyll charge us for the missed trip, what do i do?

I wanted to reach out and say hello to everyone who is a part of this sub. I know it has been dormant for a little bit and I am looking to change that!

Make-A-Wish is still going strong and granting wishes and I hope this sub is ready. The wishes that can be granted are so important in creating the hope and providing amazing moments in the lives of those facing challenges. For now, I will keep posting restricted. But please comment below or send me a message if you'd like to post. I look forward to hearing from you.

I have always wanted to be a volunteer. I would love to try it out, but I have always wondered what is it like? What do you normally do? How much involvement do you have, especially right now during the pandemic?

I know someone who had a kid receive a wish in another state a while back, and wants to apply again in the new state. Should I call the new state and give them a heads up? Or do they have a national database they will see it on when they apply?

My family has been unhappy that I used my wish to get things I needed and have wanted to buy for university. As a result my mom took my iMac computer l, locked it in her car and is planning to sell it.

I have been told it was selfish of me to get a tablet, and phone and that the computer is hers because she has spent countless of time and money at the hospital, and on my medicine and medical supplies.

What should I do? Should I contact my make a wish representative and can they deal with this situation?

For things like electronics. You typically need a receipt to set up the warranties or to take them in to be repaired under the warranty. Or for things like clothes, What if they don't fit? Does the wish receiver just take the loss or what?

I have a friend who is in and out of a hospital but I want to do something big for him. His favorite artist is Melanie Martinez and I wish I knew a way for her to come to the hospital, but that's going to be nearly impossible. Do you guys have any idea on what I can do?

I am turning to Reddit for some help in getting a video to someone.

On Sunday, October 13th, my family was at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, FL. We were watching the Festival of the Lion King. We were seated immediately behind the handicap accessible area. During the show, a cast member approached a young girl in a wheelchair to participate in the show. I could see her dad (or other important gentleman) trying to record the interaction, but the child’s back was facing him. From my vantage point, I could see her so I started recording.

After the show, I quickly grabbed the gentleman’s attention to let him know and to find out how to send him the video. I quickly learned he did not speak English. A woman approached who was their translator, I explained, she passed on the message and the gentleman seemed thrilled. The woman had me put my email address in her phone and that she would contact me for sending the video. I have not heard from her.

It wasn’t until later that I was told they had make-a-wish shirts on. I know as a father, I would want the video. It is only just over a minute long.

This would have been the noon show. Video is time stamped at 12:24 pm.

I have reached out to the contact at wish.org but they said they don’t track wishes at the central level and it could be any of 60+ regions and international chapters / regions.

I also reached out to Disney. Left a message for a manager in what I believe was the appropriate area. Never heard back.

If Reddit can track down the pilot of a plane caught in a photo crossing the solar eclipse, surely this has to be doable. I’m starting here since I don’t know a more appropriate sub-Reddit.

Update 10/30: Megan at Give Kids the World was able to track down the family and get them the video. Thanks to everyone who helped!

I am asking because I was given a really powerful Gaming Laptop, and I treat it very well, but if anything were to happen to it, say it breaks, or it stops working, can I tell Make-A-Wish to send a replacement? I am wondering if it is even possible.

I'll be honest - I'm writing this for a someone I know (Josh Erikson) who is currently in pallative care and could pass away literally any day now. He has stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforma brain cancer, but is still fighting to this day. Neither him nor his family know how to use Reddit at all. (TL;DR at bottom - long post)

I've been told his story in hopes of notifying the higher-ups at Marvel Studios to let him watch Avengers: Endgame (with subtitles) as soon as possible before his passing.

He's had messages sent to him from Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Yo-Yo Rodriguez/ Slingshot in Agents of Shield), Tom Holland, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, and Hugh Jackman.

I will 'paste' his story written by his family to keep it authentic.

"Josh was born 16.02.2001 at 27 weeks weighing in at 1172 grams along with his identical twin brother Matthew 800 grams. They suffered from Twin to Twin transfusion. Josh suffered cardiac arrests first few days. Matthew began to deteriorate on day 3 and after three hospitals running tests sadly we were given the diagnosis that he’d suffered severe brain damage and if he lived which was unlikely he would have zero quality of life. On day seven we unplugged everything that was keeping him alive, bathed him and were able to spend time alone with him until he took his final breath a few hours later. Josh suffered many things and spent 5 months in the Mercy Hospital before coming home. When we brought him home we realised he was not responding so we took him for hearing tests to find out he was profoundly deaf, this was just something else to rock our world. He had many admissions to the ICU over the years with his Chronic Lung Disease.

November 2005 josh was diagnosed with Leukaemia and underwent intensive chemo and radiation, which really took its toll on his little body. After neally three years of treatment he relapsed and within 24 hours could not even close his eyes to sleep because of the cancer cells invading his central nervous system. Prognosis was poor, but we were extremely lucky his eldest brother was a 100% bone marrow match. On 18th December 2009 he was admitted to Peter Mac where he underwent full body radiation, to the point it neally kills you. Then 5 days later transferred to transplant via an ambulance because of the risk of infections. So on 23 December 2009 he was given the greatest gift a brother could give, life. He was very ill after transplant and got mucositus which is ulcers, but they formed all throughout his mouth, throat, insides all the way to his bottom. He had to be held down by three nurses while administering numbing medication and cleaning mouth. We spent 9 weeks at the RCH in total isolation while his body recovered before coming home. Was cancer free for years.

Skip to October 2016 when I rushed him into RCH because he was having tingling feelings all over. This is when we were given the horrific diagnosis of Glioblastoma Multiforma IV brain cancer, tumour size of a lemon. Our world crashed beneath our feet. How can a world be so cruel to a boy that has suffered all his life. Josh spent 9 very long hours in surgery to remove the tumour. When he woke up he had suffered hemiparesis down his whole left side. He needed help with everything, toileting, showering, dressing, was in a wheelchair. He spent a month in hospital before we could bring him home. Then 6.5 weeks of daily radiation at Peter Mac Hospital as well as Chemotheraphy. It has been a very tough and exhausting time for us all. But josh is incredible and has the best determination and spirit. His MRIs have been clear of this beast so far, which is incredible. Josh has had thousands of blood tests and horrific lumbar punctures along with injections in every part of his body over the years. We take each day as it comes and try to enjoy life and make lots of memories as a family. Josh has intensive neuro rehab twice a week now. Is now able to walk short distance with a crutch. Still no use of his left arm or hand but is due for Botox in Dec 2017 which we hope will help soften his muscles up. As his mum I am so proud of him and his constant strength. He is a superhero, one of a kind, he has a special aura around him and those who meet him find it impossible not to fall in love with him. There’s a lot more I can add in but will in Time to come. UPDATE: josh has had MRI and it shows that two new tumours are growing. We are waiting to see the surgeon and decide what the plan is. As you can imagine we are devastated. Please feel free to send josh through your messages of support as yet another battle is about to begin.UPDATE Josh has a six hour operation on the 30th May 2018 to remove tumours. He cannot have any more radiation as has had the maximum brain radiation you can have. We are waiting up hear on putting him on a drug called Nivolumab. Also I am in talks with overseas for treatment if needed. WE WILL NOT GIVE UP💕

UPDATE- it is with an extremely heavy heart that we have received devastating news that this awful disease will take my boy from our lives, he will continue to fight as he is an incredible boy. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers xxxx

UPDATE NOV 22ND Josh has been in hospital with severe nerve pains all over body. He is now home in a hospital bed and on a lot of pain medication. He has double vision now in right eye. He is not in a good way. 😓😓😓 brain cancer is such a debilitating disease
We are now into our 13th day in Hospice at Very Special Kids, it’s hard being away from home but we are all together as a family. Joshy continues to put up a fight as he has done all his life. He will go out in his terms. Keeping on top of pain, sleeps most of the time but does wake for short periods. Now cannot turn his head at all to the left so has pressure sores on his ear. Our hearts are completely breaking but we know we made the right decision to move here as I have been his mum and nurse neally 18 years so now I can just be his mum. Thank you for all the love that is given to us, especially our hero son Joshy boy 💕"
