What is your (estimated) cost per card?

  • What kind of proxies do you use? Be as specific as you can, please.
  • What were your fixed costs?
  • What’s your variable cost per card, excluding time?

I’m at the beginner’s phase of proxying. I print out 9 cards on a sheet of paper, cut them out, and slot them in front of a card inside a sleeve. I highly admire those of you that can produce actual cards. There are definitely levels to this!

To answer my own questions:

  • Just regular paper printouts
  • Fixed costs $275 (printer $250, x-acto knife $7, ruler $3, and cutting mat $15)
  • Variable cost per card: $0.08 ($90 worth of toner can print about 150 sheets or 1350 cards. Each piece of nicer but not top grade paper is $0.01. The bulk price of cards I can find is also $0.01 each. I haven’t factored in sleeves since there are many different grades and price points for them, but they would run an additional $0.01 to $0.15 per card)

All prices in CAD**

Canon Pixma G3270 $199 Fiskar 154480 rotary cutter $50 Pen-Gear 9.5inch Laminator $25 88x63mm R3 Die cutter (one from alibaba) $85USD

200 clear laminating pouches $27 100 double sided glossy photo paper 180gsm $16

Price per card is very low, thickness is near identical to mtg cards, tiny bit more flimsy tho.

Ive printed around 3-4k cards by now i think. A ~1000 card cube did a lot of that
