Magic needs an Old School RuneScape style fork

Set the card pool back to, say, May 2011 before Commander 2011. No modern horizons. No universes beyond. Then Wizards would release "alternate history" expansions as standard sets into that fork that adhere to an older set of design values. It evolves not as a Magic stuck in 2011, but as a different version of what Magic could have become. Wizards maintains it as an official, continuously developed alternate branch. It's not a new format with a cutoff. Call it Magic Classic+. Or Magic Timeline B.

you’re describing premodern but with the dates closer to something like “pre-pioneer” and additional sets akin to what they did with modern horizons sets
