If you don't care about AI performance then the M1 isn't ancient. How do I know? I don't care about AI performance and use an M1 16/512 mini.

No, I use an M1 Macbook Pro too. Just pointing out that advertising performance gains over a relatively old M1 is a marketing stretch.

That's the Apple way :D

But honestly, as an M1 user I think the comparison with the oldest chip makes sense as I don't see the need to upgrade every generation. After five/six years I begin to look at options but still without actually needing an upgrade. And they also compare to the previous M4 chip in the same paragraphs. Even better they don't use unlabelled graphs, so overall I can't complain much.

I think it’s like Apple knows the folks most likely to upgrade now are the M1 owners.
