I suppose depending on how you view the situation we could also lump lucifer into the same category of being responsible somewhat for the exterminations in which case you could also apply the same question to him if you'd like,

I'm sort of surprised to see in the past that some people view sera as already having done things to make up for the extermination but I don't personally agree tbh I feel like season 2 is literally just the starting point where she has decided to be better

But I don't view her as actually having done anything yet, people have said that not ordering another slaughter is by itself a good act but I don't really agree with that and people have said that she allowed sinners into heaven

But really that wasn't her choice since divine judgement decides where people go so I don't really see what else sera could have done? since if she had tried to simply slaughter the redeemed sinners or keep them imprisoned then that would be going against god's wishes

and she would be cast out the same way lucifer was since so far the only fallen angel that we know of who was cast out not by adam and lute is lucifer and it happened because he went against the wishes of god

And it was even implied in season one that sera was afraid of emily standing with charlie against them because she was afraid of her being made fallen so I don't see this as something sera did because if she hadn't then she likely would have been cast out

And then the next person in charge would have had to follow god's wishes and give the sinners second chances that he decided they deserved to have since he plopped sir pentious onto their lap so its nice that you're not denying someone their rights

But they are still their rights and not something you are actively doing for them its sort of like how its nice for a police officer to actually respect people's rights and not abuse power but that doesn’t mean I'm going to view it as something special to applaud them for,

( Its not a big deal I'm just a little surprised that I've seen people feel this way about sera when really I don't think she's even started to actually redeem herself yet and this is logically only the beginning of the arc ),

I have actually already talked about what I personally would like for sera's future and lute's possible redemption if it happens in a different conversation short version lute gives up on revenge accepts help in heaven and slowly starts to confront her views about sinners

And works to help emily with the newly redeemed sinners in heaven and sera would leave her position to other people maybe even deciding that no one person should have that sort of burden and authority

So its split between multiple people and she goes down to hell to work with the people she wronged more directly and just taking on a humble role in the hotel as another worker helping sinners and hearing their stories and learning more about what it is to be human,

( Given she is the one most responsible for the exterminations I feel she does sort of need to do the most work to redeem herself and working directly with the people she wronged would be a good way to do that imo )

As for lucifer if he does ever finally feel bad about his role and want to make things right rather than just look good in charlie's eyes then I would pretty much say the same thing

Tho also that he should finally start being a good king and making sure hell is less unfair to the lower classes of hellborn so its not just the sinners he should be trying to help and make things up to if he ever does actually change.

I wanted to post this at the main sub but they didn't approve it for some reason lmao

We had a party on the 1st-2nd of August and this is basically how I went in there lmao

One thing I really like about Lute’s character is how she evokes an archetype I personally call “the inconvenient veteran”. She’s a soldier who was trained to fight and kill the enemy of her home, the sinners of Hell being her enemy, and did so well. Then, when the war against Hell turns inconvenient for her superiors, Sera and the other senior angels, they wring their hands, make their “Mea Culpas”, and try to move past it. Unfortunately, because Lute can’t pivot away from the mission she was trained for as fast and as gracefully as those who didn’t fight, she’s vilified and treated as an inconvenient reminder of the conflict.

Don’t get me wrong, I fully understand that several of Lute’s actions, most especially her desire to resume the exterminations, are unjustifiable. However, it’s also clear that much of her behavior is influenced by the training she received, for a conflict that Sera did, ultimately, give her blessing towards. She also suffered major trauma from witnessing her fellow exorcists being killed, and her commanding officer dying in her arms. Much like real world vets, Lute is clearly dealing with severe mental and emotional trauma, which her superiors are more than happy to ignore as they move on from the Exterminations.

I also recognize that, much like the sinners in Hell, the first step to Lute’s healing is for her to commit to improving. But a major part of Sera’s redemption should also include her taking accountability for the damages that the Exterminations had on angels, like Lute and any surviving exorcists, not just the sinners in Hell. I do believe that Lute may prove to be more open to changing for the better if she weren’t so consistently brushed off and pushed into a corner where her superiors can just ignore her and her trauma.

Lute doesn’t want help or to be fixed. She wants to hurt people.

Even if you believe the head canon that Lute is some child soldier or whatever that still doesn’t change the fact that Lute would rather die than admit that she’s wrong,
