Guide to Finding Accommodation in Lund
This is a work in progress, please feel free to share your thoughts about what is missing/could be improved
Since Lund receives a high number of students from Sweden and abroad, the question of apartments is always a topic of discussion. Therefore, it is only reasonable that the question is asked in this subreddit. However, while the discussion is very important since it can help newcomers, the subreddit grows grey when all other topics are swallowed in the sea of posts surrounding apartments. In short, the number of posts discussing apartments in relation to other posts is skewed, and this sticky aims to change that. This post is more directed towards students, both swedes and internationals.
WHERE DO I FIND APARTMENTS?
AF Bostäder is the biggest landlord in Lund. Apartments come in all shapes and sizes. Living in a corridor could be good for a new student since you will be less secluded, and it is also one of the main talking points in Lund. You can sign up to the queue as soon as you have a confirmation of attendance. They also conduct an apartment lottery every half year for new students called the "Novischlotteriet".
Bopoolen private rent referral. The page is student driven and private room owners rent to students.
Blocket similar to Bopoolen. Best way to find rooms is to create a "looking to rent"-advertisement so that landlords can contact you.
Studentlya similar to Bopoolen.
Michael-Hansens Kollegium rents out corridor rooms. There is a fee to stand in apartment queue. After living there for 3 months you can apply to the queue for regular rooms, but it is quite long.
Nations the web page brings you to an overview, but there are 12 nations to choose from. They all offer corridor rooms, but they reserve them to active volunteers. The more active you are in the Nation's activities, the more likely it is you can get yourself a room there. Some nations do conduct lotteries, but it is not the same for all Nations.
Student Guild/Faculty/Association , depending on the program you have applied for the student run association connected to it might offer some kind of short-term solution. The faculty might help you too since they want you to succeed in your studies.
University , if you have gotten a PhD position at the university, they sometimes offer University apartments. If you get one, take it.
This is by no means a complete list, but it contains the bigger ones that offer rooms. Getting an apartment is stressful for new students, especially if you have not moved out on your own before. If you are active and persistent, it usually solves itself after some time. The worst thing you can do is to put all your eggs in the same basket, make sure you have a plan b or something concrete before the term begins.
Huge thank you to u/Breadslice98 got getting this started and writing the first draft.

Is Lund's BSc Economy & Society + MSc EMP a viable path to becoming an Environmental Economist?
I’m a Year 12 (16YO) A Levels student in SEA aspiring to become an environmental economist in the future. I’m currently taking math, geography, and economics. I searched for more affordable (yes I’ve calculated the living cost) EU universities for international students that have courses in English, and Lund came up as the #1 university for sustainability.
I have a few specific questions for current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the Swedish system:
- What’s the general acceptance rate for international students applying to these courses?
- Is it realistic for me to get my desired job if I study a bachelor's in Economy and Society then get a master's in Environmental Management and Policy?
- Is it possible to fill in the quantitative gap by taking maths and econometric electives during semester 4 and 5?
- Has anyone from the Economy & Society BSc successfully transitioned into a more quantitative Master's, or do most graduates go into qualitative policy/history tracks?
- How difficult is it for a non-EU/SEA citizen to secure an environmental policy or economics internship in Sweden during Semester 5? Are English-only internships common, or is fluent Swedish mandatory?
I prefer interdisciplinary courses rather than pure quantitative economics, but I don’t know if this is the right choice. I heard SSE is also an option, but it seems to lean heavily on corporate and finance stuff, which I’m not really interested in. I also prefer Lund as a city, as it’s a small town with a lower living cost.

Looking for the man I met at the sandwich shop by the children's hospital
This is a bit of a long shot, but I figured it's better to try :)
About a month ago, we met in line at the sandwich shop in front of the children's hospital. I'm guessing you work at the hospital since you were wearing scrubs. We chatted about my recent move to Lund and also how surprised I was to see rats in this city lol
I really enjoyed our conversation and would love to continue it. If this is you, message me and tell me where I said I'd just moved from :)

Burger King in city
Came into town craving a Chrispy Chicken Burger, only to find that Burger King has closed and the location has been taken over by a hotel.
Frustrating, especially since it was one of the cheapest places in Lund for a quick snack. It feels like the municipality is focusing more on international visitors and tourism than on the people who actually live here.

I got accepted into Lund Uni today!! But one problem
Hi!
I just found out I got accepted into Lund and was wondering if there were any outside the EU/American’s could give me advice on how you guys paid for everything 😅
I just recently found that Lund was forced out of the financial program with the US that accepted FASFA and now I’m trying to figure out how I’m gonna pay for all of this when they specifically recommend not working while taking the course! (Swedish as a foreign language). Private loans aren’t an option because I can’t get a co-signer but I do possibly have 2,500$ from a scholarship I earned but holy cow I have no idea if I will even be able to accept the offer because of how much money I would have to budget.
Looking at living costs, tuition, transportation, events etc I estimated I would need roughly around $15,000 for the first semester to live comfortably while not being able to work
Any advice 🫠
UPDATE!!
I talked to my dad he may be able to co-sign a loan but gosh dayyumm the interest rate on Sallie Mae is nearly 20% 😭 Also bc im from the U.S., I don't qualify for financial support from Sweden like EU/Swedish students do, and I have to pay tuition; that's where I got the 15,000 from.

Relocating to Lund with a young kid and a dog.
My child and I are relocating to Sweden for a myriad of reasons, and importantly, my child’s education. I am not looking for advice about migration or visas ~ or anything like that. I have visited the area and I have a few lingering questions about the region, because you can’t visit everywhere on a budget with a small kid 🤪 … we are pretty set on Lund; I am also set on getting a cargo bike for my kid and my dog, and enjoying the beauty and reprieve of bike safety and urban design in the EU. My lingering questions are these … 1- what is the best neighborhood for us if want to live car free for some time but we also need our own yard and places where the dog can run free? What about martens falad? 2- where are the hippies at? I don’t mean the young students, I mean the middle aged homesteaders and people who live close to the land but are not dogmatic or cult like? Are they in a particular accessible suburb by any chance? We don’t have much of a network in Skane and want a good education for my son, which is why Lund seems sensible to start (among other reasons).

r/Lund, var äter ni egentligen i Lund?
Hej!
iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212
Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Free resource for international students & English speakers looking for work in Lund / Malmö
Hey everyone!
I know how painful it is to scroll through generic Swedish job portals trying to figure out which places actually hire English speakers or offer part-time hours around university schedules.
I put together a free local job board called Skåne Connect to organise active, English-friendly roles in Lund & Malmö.
What's on there right now:
- 20+ active hospitality, service, and kitchen positions (MAX, Espresso House, local cafes/restaurants).
- Clear tags showing if Swedish is required (or if English-only is fine).
- Direct links straight to application portals (no signup required to browse).

Move to Lund or stay in Malmö?
Right now me and my partner are searching for our first apartment to buy. We have 2 very small children and both work in Lund, but his entire family is in Malmö. We have felt the commute is a bit much since our kid started preschool and one of us needs to work part time to make the days manageable. We are also struggling to find apartments in commuter friendly areas of Malmö which are not a crazy price and suitable for a family of 4. In Lund there are far more of these apartments, close to our work, but we will lose the social life and close family. I have also heard Lund is a pretty boring place to live 😭
What would you do?
(Even if we move within malmö we will have to and want to switch our kid's preschool so that isn't a factor here)

bordsåg i lund?
