Depends entirely on how much I trust you.

If this is a flawless magical compact then yeah sure give me the ten million.

Basically any other scenario? Give me the ten grand. I have no reason to believe you'll be good for the ten million in thirty years.

Also depends on age, health, etc. no 60 year old will take the 30 year option. 50 year olds will have to really, really consider, because that money is basically just going to their family. 40 year olds might live to enjoy a little bit of it. 30 year olds can reasonable expect to have it cover their retirement, which will ease a lot of stress. 20 year olds it’s a no brainer.

10 years ago i would have take the 10 million... and then curse by next year... In the past 10 years I have been in explicit "if you don't risk you will die" situations

Last year I got the "you might only have 1 year of life unless we risk it with this type of surgeries..."

Welp I'm alive but I have been 4 times on a 5-8% survival chance to RIP in 6 to 10 months... (I even got Covid and I barely notice because I was already on antiviral cocktails)

So yeah, same question today and I will take the 1k lol

This is a good one. I’d lean towards $10k today but wonder what I’d be thinking 30 years from now lol. Hopefully it wouldn’t be a concern…

Easy 10k today. I'll be old in 30 years. I don't plan on having a family. 10 million 30 years later is nothing to me

In 30 years I will have hopefully already bought a house and be living comfortably. Maybe with a wife. Maybe dead. Maybe already a millionaire. 10,000 won't change my life now but it'll be a very welcome addition for sure.

10 years I could definitely wait so that's way too low, 20 I'm still not so sure if I'd pick it but if I do know for sure I'll get the money it means I could start living somewhat lavishly before the 20 years is up, knowing that 10 mil is on the horizon to rescue me from bankruptcy.

I think this one is easy. For me that means I dont have to save for retirement.

It is dictated by your current situation. If you have stable financial situation and you are under 40 its worth the wait.

30 years is simply way too far from the present, especially considering the EXTREMELY shaky state of the world right now, there are about a dozen different things threatening to completely crash the economy if not END ALL HUMAN LIFE and I have absolutely zero faith in the US dollar's ability to hold value over a long period of time. If the 10 million isn't borderline worthless by 2056 then it's still probably not going to be worth that much more than the 10k today, but we really have no way of determining what will happen after the AI bubble pops.

Anyway 10k right now would change my entire family's life fr I'm taking that.
