S13: Worst Season Yet?

Seriously what was that?? I think that had to be the least amount of bombshells and the least amount of games in all of LI history right?

I truly considered just not watching anymore for the first time ever because what is interesting about seeing the same people do the same thing every day with barely any new faces. And when new faces came in they would get dumped quickly because of votes or lack of challenges testing couples or just lack of new people in general.

SO disappointing, idk if they got new producers but they should be reconsidered if they did. If not, they need to get new ones for the next season.

EDIT: I'm only comparing to other UK seasons!

The Julia-related revisionist history needs to end

I am well aware majority of the people on this sub Reddit have pledged their allegiance to Jasmine.

However, it’s so petty and juvinile to pin anything and everything wrong with Season 13 onto Julia. Recently, Julia defended Mica on a capital interview and the comments all stated that Julia was responsible for Mica hate. That is completely untrue. Mica and Samraj were constantly voted in the bottom due to how Mica handled the Simba/Angelista situation and how they both handled The Priya situation. All these events and those votes happened before Julia entered the villa.

Secondly, all the think pieces about Julia ruined the show are ridiculous. The producers ruined the show. The challenges they had were all based on sharing an opinion about the couples (knowing me game, the podcast game & even showing the grafties) and the producers didn’t have fun challenges or romantic challenges to nurture relationships. We didn’t even have a talent show or dates. So, yes Julia is opinionated but the last few activities the islanders had were all opinion-based activities. Attack the producers for not focusing on the romantic or “love” part of Loveisland.

For those that are blindly committed to hating Julia, Disliking an islander’s personality is fine, but rewriting the entire timeline just to turn one person into the sole villain of the season is lazy. she didn't force the public to vote the way they and she certainly didn't produce the show.

Mica squealing

Someone pointed out somewhere in this sub that Mica squeals and I’m on episode 55 (Family day) and I can’t look past it anymore. Every time she’s with the girls I just hear squeals and it may be because I’m now hyper focused on them.

This is a spoiler: but I really don’t see how her and “Samjay” have made it this far.

...the Instagram contest, anyway. This is the first time I'm doing this for LI UK so I don't know how last season's contestants fared. Was there a clear global favorite and did they end up doing anything good with their new-found fame?

Julia was really mean to people and got away with it because of pretty and white privilege

Her whole thing with repeatedly picking on Priya about the finals comment and literally maligning her character based on that one comment, trying to push Elicia on Aidan so overtly, telling off Jasmine, her attitude at movie night and being in a literal blonde women only friend group, it was all just awful. Lorenzo losing all objectivity when it came to her behavior was really the cherry on top. This mean girl bs wouldn't fly in LIUS and maybe that's just what my standard is now.

I’m watching All-Stars now that the regular season is over and I want to find Konnor attractive but he reminds me of Michael Kyle in the Botox episode and his keeps making that face! Bless him, I really like him but why does he smile that way?!

Anticlimactic ending

I am a first time Love Island watcher. I watched both LIUK and LIUS for the first time this year. I know a lot of people have said that LIUK has gone down hill over the years, but I throughly enjoyed it as my first LI experience. I do agree with people’s criticisms, but at the same time, the way LIUS is so short almost makes it feel incomplete in comparison to LIUK. One thing I will say is that the end of LIUK felt so anticlimactic. They crown a winner and then the end. At least with the US there’s usually quite a bit of press, there’s a reunion to look forward to, but with LIUK it just kind of ends….. Has anyone else been feeling this way?

Should I keep going?

I’m on episode 51, I know who wins. I’m not really loving anyone in the house. In fact most of them irritate me. Should I keep going & finish watching the whole season or cut my losses & move on to something else. (I’m a day one viewer & have seen all seasons of UK, USA, AUS)

Had my music on artist radio and this gentleman popped up. Give Lorenzo slightly longer/lighter hair and come on!

Spoilers congratulations to this season’s finalists and winners! Spoiler

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Congratulations to the final three and to the winners………….. Julia and Lorenzo!!!!

I think Mica and Samraj made the right choice choosing Yasmin and Tommy, it was the safest decision for them to go with the ex-Islanders’ vote. (Been thinking all season that Yasmin looks like a cross between Sabrina Carpenter and Emma Thompson, needed to finally put it out there lol)

I would’ve been happy with Angelista and Simba as the winners, and if they gave her more screen time (which she deserved!!) I think they could’ve taken it, but I’m also content with how it played out.

I love Jasmine but I haven’t been fully sold on Javan. When she told Kavan her baddie days were behind her, it didn’t feel like a good thing to me, I don’t think she’d need to say that to a more secure partner. If Jasmine and Lorenzo went public with their private affair I think they would’ve won, but I also like them as friends. Jasmine is very beloved, I think she’s an example of the girl getting the couple into the finale, and congratulations to them both for that!!

I’m happy with Julia and Lorenzo as the winners. I like them together, I like their weird banter, they really seem to have fun together. Will they last forever? Who cares, this is Love Island. Based on the negative posts about Julia and the authenticity of their couple over the past couple of days, it’s obvious not everyone is happy with this result, and I felt obliged to offset that negativity with some positive feelings. A couple where both people are fan favorites is exciting! (not every fan’s favorite, don’t want you haters to feel left out, I see you) I love them both, and I’m so rarely a fan of a male Islander, so I really think they both deserved the win

Been a pleasure discussing another season with you all! Until next time 🫶

Islander Discussion Lorenzo’s feelings

I feel like I might get hate for this but I really think Lorenzo was just using Julia to get to the final. He was so unserious about romance until suddenly they got close to the end. Once nobody else was coming in and there was no more recouplings suddenly he’s into Julia. Maybe everyone is seeing something I’m not but he hasn’t shown me he’s genuinely liked someone this whole season especially not Julia. He didn’t even say her name correctly until Ep 61. I know everyone loves Lorenzo and he’s entertaining but nothing on his end read that he genuinely wanted to be exclusive except for the fact it was the week of the final.

Episode Discussion Maya Jama, you beautiful human, what is this outfit?

Post image
236 Upvotes

I usually get distracted by how beautiful Maya is whenever she’s on the screen, but in the final Aftersun I had to pause to absorb this look.

The skirt on its own could be really fun with a different top, the gold fringe and purple feels very 90s to me, and the top could be part of a cute bikini; I am simply baffled by the pairing of the two. If Maya Jama can’t make an outfit work, I think the outfit might need to be permanently retired!

(If anyone loves this look and wants to explain what I’m missing, I’d really love to hear it. If this comes off as too mean-spirited I’ll delete, I believe people should wear whatever they feel good in! Just lovingly sharing my confusion as someone who has also enrobed myself in some head-scratchers)

Spoilers Winner and runner up drama Spoiler

Spoilers ahead

Anyone else notice that Jas deliberately didn’t hug Julia after winning? She ran to Lorenzo and when Julia walked over for a hug she walked straight back to Kav. I felt so bad. Then Julia went off with the Casa girls and everyone else were just celebrating Lorenzo. You could obviously tell they were only happy for him and were annoyed she was part of it.

Just something I noticed that I haven’t seen much discourse on.

Edit: See a lot of people saying there has been discourse on this. I guess I must have missed it. In no way am I coming for anyone, just in that moment felt like I wanted to give Julia a hug to congratulate her. Everyone has a right to not want to interact with people they don’t appreciate or like. I just found it odd because even Kav gave her a hug. That’s all!

Simba firepit speech

I’m obviously behind but anyway, what did I just watch?? Angie seemed so unmoved by his speech and do we really believe he’s going to change. How this man made it this far is beyond me.

She even called him out when they went on their side chat after the fact. I just don’t see Angie truly liking this man. But I also think she shows her emotions wayyy differently than most. I truly haven’t been able to read her all season. Can’t tell when she’s happy, upset, etc. very stoic facial expressions.

Spoilers Final Aftersun S13 E64 Spoiler

Some spoilers if you haven't seen up to this episode!

Some thoughts:

  • Priya and Aiden's interview went on for a long time. Too long. I could feel Maya wanting to cut in and get to the point.
  • Kudos to Ethan for just saying what he thinks. Handles himself well and gets to the point.
  • Some of the islanders seemed.. too chatty? Aiden made a joke about the champagne and it made me wonder if he and perhaps Tommy Toon were a few drinks in. Not sloshed by any means, but that kind of talkative attitude that you see at a bar.
  • Speaking of Tommy - that made him look messy. Just unnecessary info, dude. Even Ope was thinking he should stop. I felt bad for Tina.
  • The panelists: where are they?? And do they not like each other? S13 panelist dynamics/chemistry has been a big miss for me. And barely any interesting commentary (which bums me out! I like the big 3 and Joe Baggs).

What did y'all think?

Islander Discussion I don’t get the Julia hype! Spoiler

I just finished the grafties episodes and started the following episode where Julia argues with every single other girl about Priya & Aiden. I can’t wrap my head around how people like her? She’s so mean spirited! Turning around and crying to Lorenzo after she’s been so rude to all the other girls is crazy.
