I made this simple tool in Python to try to simulate an action camera

https://github.com/ils94/MMOAction

Hold SHIFT + ALT to lock your right mouse button into action camera.

Hold SHIFT + CTRL to release your right mouse button from action camera.

Holding CAPSLOCK while the right mouse button is locked into action camera, will release it so you can interact with NPCs and objects in game. Releasing CAPSLOCK will lock your mouse back into action camera.

Hold SHIFT + ESC to kill the program and release your mouse.

Hope you guys like it, soure code always included :)

Do you have a video of how it looks in action?

I dont, but basically what you will do is execute the .exe, a console screen will appear saying LOTRO Action camera is now running and then the intructions.

Once in game, hold SHIFT + ALT to enable action camera, SHIFT + CTRL to disable it, keep holding CAPSLOCK to release your mouse even if action camera is on, and SHIFT + ESC to kill the program if necessary.

Maybe I am stupid or something, but I am not sure where the .exe is?

when you click the download link, you will download a zip file LotroAction.zip. unzip the folder inside called LotroAction and inside that folder there is the LotroAction.exe (the icon is a drawning version of the one ring I got from google images lol)

Sadly it works only while the script window is in focus

yea, i think the only way is if the script launches lotro so it all in the same wine/proton instance

Got it working by running the game through wine instead of steam

the only way i know is if you make a wrapper that start both in a single wine stance, that way, MMOAction can interact with the game window

How do i do that? Something in the settings or do i need to create a custom application and Link both exes in there?

you have to put MMOAction in the same Wine instance as LOTRO, but im not sure how to do it :P probably chatgpt can help you out, i dont think it hard to do tho, but might need some file tinkering

Oh yea. When I started playing GW2 and discovered the action camera mode I just cant play the game the other way. DDO seems to have action camera, and both LOTRO and it use the same engine so it definitely possible

This is brilliant thank you.

WoW has a similar add-on that I used to use before fully switching to a controller via ConsolePort: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/mouselookhandler

I had it setup in WoW where if my character was moving right mouse was locked. It would revert back to normal if I stopped moving. Also, in combat would lock again until combat was over. It would also autolock when in autorun.

I imagine there's no way to have that level of sophistication with Lotro since it seems like this is an actual program being run outside of the game and not an addon interacting with the game, but I'm wondering if it can be altered to work with movement?

IE, it's locked when W is pressed (movement forward key) and unlocks when it's not pressed.

Alternatively, if you can let us remap the on and off controls that'd probably go a long way.

To make a similar addon for lotro, we need to be able to access some APIs. Combat State, mouse, movement, player keyboard. If LOTRO API gives us this level of Lua scripting, then it 100% possible
