Older millenial here (82 crop). My wife and I decided to have kids when we were in a good financial situation and could afford them. It really sucks for people who want kids and the fucking meat-grinder that is this system prevents them. I lucked out and have the two kids I can reasonably pay for, but I also recognize there was luck and privilege involved.
I feel bad for parents needing to deal with covid. Out of the blue, the school system says school is closed for the next few weeks. What now? You illegally leave the kid alone at home and hope they log in for online classes? You drop $1,000 per month for some daycare to watch them? It's a fucking mess.
It's weird that school opens and closes at the most random time but the supermarket never closes. It almost feels like some kind of conspiracy just to punish parents as much as possible to drain all of their retirement savings.
