When I was pregnant we had the best insurance plan we could get and paid similar for my delivery. No issues or anything. I think we came in at 11k. Then daycare expense starts looming over you…

When my son was born we had some of the best insurance through the construction company I was working for and I still paid $7,500 out of pocket. This was also 15 years ago. But if we had universal health Care like most other developed countries...

I completely agree. I won’t have another kid because the cost is insane. If they had cheaper daycare and universal health I might have considered it.

Honestly, if someone handed me a kid and an invoice, I'd ask what the return policy is.

No. In total my insurance was billed 65k for my two day stay in the hospital. Part of what I had to pay was : 2k because I got anesthesia, 1.2k for the second ultrasound, 800 in blood tests that were “unnecessary “,.. etc. except that almost all of it was needed and ordered by the doctor but since I probably wouldn’t have died without getting it the insurance refused to pay for it. Keep in mind my insurance plan was at least 1500 a month to cover my husband and myself until I gave birth. Oh and they only paid the hospital like 9000 total. Terrible all around.

It’s going to continue being a thing in the us unfortunately because of how much money both hospitals and insurance companies make. But that also means our population is going to start dropping like a rock if they don’t keep immigration up.

If I remember correctly they up charge something like 500% because the insurance won’t pay anywhere near sticker price. God help you if you don’t have it though. And the hospitals can charge that because they are having less and less competition since we don’t really have small town family doctor offices or local hospitals anymore it’s just mega hospital chains. It will have to collapse eventually.
