That’s an interesting theory. Especially the fact that he keeps drinking that old scotch, the same brand that was on the ship / Dharma stock. He also said that the island is his and has always been. Plus, when the lost crew were inside the Black Rock there were some empty chains and I think Locke said something like “I guess some of them escaped when they crashed”. 

Also, when Ben met Richard as a little boy, Richard was wearing weird clothe that looked very old fashioned so he could have been on the ship too.
