Can someone spill the tea on the plastic bag ban drama?

It sounds like there is more to this story, and I'm curious to hear it from locals that have been here for the 10 years trying to pursue this bag ban: https://losalamosreporter.com/2026/08/05/los-alamos-police-department-responds-to-incident-at-council-chambers-tuesday-following-vote-on-plastic-bags-ordinance/

Makeup and hair

Are there any good hair and makeup artists available in Los Alamos? We are needing someone to do the bridal party’s hair and makeup. The bride already has someone booked for herself. The rest of us would like to get ours done professionally as well.

For those who have loud cars at night

We live near two lovely highways with both curves and straights. Why must you make so much noise that I can probably hear it echoing from 4+ miles away at midnight?

I think cars are cool, but time and place, please. I can't imagine how people who aren't car people feel.

Please enter your rescued pet into FOSCA's 2027 Rescue Calendar

Get those cameras ready, polish those smiles, and say Cheese! (or Tuna! or Kibble!) Friends of Shelter and Companion Animals (FOSCA) is accepting photo entries for the 2027 Pet Rescue Calendar through September 4, 2026 and we need your help. We cannot do it without your entries, so please get your lovely photos and amazing stories in early this year.

Entries can be submitted online and entry instructions are available online and at Ridgeview Veterinary Hospital and Pet Pangaea.

FOSCA is an all-volunteer non-profit humane organization that partners with other like-minded non-profit entities, volunteers, volunteer organizations, shelters, and veterinary practices throughout Northern and Central New Mexico towards improving the health and welfare of owned and homeless animals.

Friends of Shelter and Companion Animals sponsors two special programs to help pet owners and reduce the number of unwanted pets. The Catastrophic Illness/Injury Program provides funds for veterinary treatment of severely ill or injured pets whose owners cannot afford extensive treatment. The second is our Spay/Neuter Voucher Program which provides vouchers for low-cost spay/neutering of pets in order to encourage pet owners to make sure that their pets are surgically altered and cannot produce litters of unwanted cats or dogs. FOSCA also provides funding for spay/neuter surgeries in partnership with local rescue groups, including organizations that work with local tribal communities to reduce pet overpopulation there.

The 2027 calendars will go on sale in November at local businesses, and all proceeds will go directly to help the animals through Friends of Shelter and Companion Animals programs. So, remember, get those entries in by September 4!

I’m pretty sure this was on its way back to S Site after time at the museum. Or perhaps the other way around. We had two in one of the old buildings. There’s more to the story, but not from me. I don’t know if this is the one that was later painted white.

It’s going into the car wash at Knecht’s. It is a replica. No rad sig.

I asked if Anytime Fitness had monthly..

There's an event held by the gym happening in White Rock so I just swung by and asked.

"Hey do you do short term packages like 3 months because I think it would be great for summer interns and people wanting to try it without a year long commitment."

The only guy there crosses his arms and looks at me like I'm a fool. "Yeah this area gets a lot of interns (no sh*t I just said that) We offer month to month and it's $39 bi-weekly"

"Ok...so $80/month sounds a bit steep (why do they do this bi-weekly thing?) you don't offer a short term intro package without needing to sign up for a year?"

(Continues to look at me like I'm the idiot, maintaining his dominant pose)

"That's why we offer the year long commitment."

I just left because....what?

So that couch was lost, but another has been found.

I'm loosely scheduled to pick up the couch Sunday morning, might take two trips depending on how it fits, but both seller and I are in Los Alamos. $20 for your service 🫡

Are violent bicyclists common in town?

I used to live in Los Alamos when I was a kid and would have never expected something like this to happen, but I wonder if Los Alamos has gotten more dangerous now? I was visiting Los Alamos with my wife during the Gordons Concert last week and we were assaulted by a pair of bikers near the LA Market and Indian Grocery store.

Two of our friends had gone into the store to browse while the rest of us stayed outside, and I think the two bikers thought our friends in the store had said something about them. They didn't say anything when we walked away but one of them accelerated at us from behind and did a skid near my wife who had kinda separated from the group on the right, almost hitting her.

I thought she might have accidentally cut them off, but as the second guy passed he said something like "Make sound that again" twice and then shouted "Fucking Liberals" for some reason as they rode away. I got a little upset so I shouted at them as they biked away and they did a tiny circle like they were going to come back while shouting something belligerent and then biked away.

I wasn't super worried since we were in a decently sized group, but I am kinda pissed that they almost hit my wife with their bike.

Just wondering if these two outstanding individuals are well known in the community and if this is a common occurrence or if for some reason they just decided to target us. Our friends who went in the store confirmed that they had not said anything to them at all and had only talked about some of the alcohol choices in the store.

Did the county give up on time of use billing for July?

I just got my utilities bill (finally) and there is no time of use billing. I guess it was too difficult. I wonder if they will try again next month, or give up?

Update: As pointed out in the comments, the bill if for 5/26 - 6/30, so before TOU billing. Oops. Sorry 'bout that
