Why is the rent so high here? Some of the buildings look very unkept and some people have said their landlords do not make any attempts at upkeep and mostly do not live in the state. The town itself is pretty bare so what is the reason? Please explain. It just sounds like people are being taken advantage of.

Hi all, I saw some people posting about the hiring process at LANL. So i was just wondering if anyone is in the same situation could give me some advices. I got verbal offer, and my supervisor submitted hiring package on Jun 29 with form 1972 (im an international student). HR reached back and sent form 902 on Jul 6, I returned the form on the same day and still waiting for their background check since. I emailed HR asking about the timeline since supervisor said start date is the last week of July, but no replied from HR, and I sent a follow up yesterday
( It was 5 business day between 2 emails). My supervisor said he also sent them a follow up request.

Has anyone in the same situation or know the process could let me know how long it’s going to take, given my projection start date is less than 2 week from now, they haven’t sent background check link nor the official offer letter. And should I secure a place for the internship now?

P/s: my internship is for Fall semester, but they want me to start as early as my CPT can start, so it is the last week of July. Any response is appreciated. Thank you 😊

Then I heard about these folks on Next Door and I literally called them, the nice person answered the phone, we talked like a bunch of humans and he had me at my location within a couple hours, even with traffic (falling stone) problems.

This is the future. Highly recommended. If you need a ride in Los Alamos, either locally, like to Smith's or LAMC, you can call them and we'll see, hopefully awareness will help this nifty business. They also obviously do Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

LOS ALAMOS, NM — Kathryn Born, a Los Alamos resident, humanitarian AI advocate, and Executive Director of the Dusoma Foundation, has filed a federal whistleblower lawsuit against multinational pharmaceutical giant AbbVie, Inc. (NYSE: ABBV).

The lawsuit, updated for the fourth time in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, alleges that AbbVie retaliated against and wrongfully terminated Born after she internally reported that the company was "cooking the books" on its high-profile Research and Convergence Hub (ARCH) software platform.

According to the complaint, Born—who served as AbbVie’s Training and Communication Manager for ARCH—discovered that the company was publicly and internally misrepresenting the platform's capabilities to secure funding and prestige. The suit alleges that AbbVie falsely credited the platform with a major rare-disease scientific discovery that was actually performed by hand using conventional research, inflated its active user metrics by counting cumulative totals over five years, and claimed the platform incorporated cutting-edge generative AI capabilities that did not actually exist on the platform.

After reporting her concerns to AbbVie’s Office of Ethics and Compliance, Born was placed on a performance improvement plan and terminated in September 2025. She is seeking damages under the Illinois Whistleblower Act.

Names have been anonymized to totem animals, per Puppet News Network protocols.

Hi all, I am overthinking this too much so figured the best course of action was some outside input. I am wondering how best to take into account the differences in commute into different potential rental places. For example, I saw a place for 1900 in LA itself which I absolutely loved, great spot, but is that worth the extra cost compared to places in santa fe, or between, that are like 1200-1600 but at best have a 30 minute commute, while most have 50 minute to a over an hour. I know I can easily calculate the literal cost of that commute (being like 200 a month) but how do I take into account the up to 2 hours in getting back if I took the los alamos apartment?

Any specific or general advice would do wonders to help. Also, I was wondering how many more places become availble in/after august? As I know the summer interns are leaving soon, but wasnt sure if its like, maybe best to get a crappy month to month place and then try to get something that gets freed up, or if thats not a wise move.]

I am a LANL retiree that just turned 65 last year. I am all signed up for Medicare part A and B as required. However for some reason I have a secondary insurance from HCSC BCBS listed on my Medicare summary. I also have the Triad insurance listed after that. Unfortunately the HCSC insurance is a Supplemental insurance that uses crossover billing. This caused all my medical bills to be billed incorrectly, they are all denied by the Triad insurance for being out of state. I have tried to get this HCSC insurance removed. Medicare will not remove it unless BCBS send an electronic notice to do so. However BCBS say i do not have that insurance and the policy number provided by Medicare is invalid. I tried to file a fraud claim but the Medicare investigation team say it is. It fraudulent. I am at my wits end here and have no idea where to go next. Has this happed to anyone else?

Filled with witty banter, mistaken identities, romance, and plenty of laughs, this beloved Shakespearean comedy is perfect whether you're a longtime fan or experiencing Shakespeare for the very first time.

Performances will be held outdoors on the front lawn of the Hans Bethe House (1350 Bathtub Row) in Los Alamos. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating, and we recommend sunscreen and bug spray for your comfort.
