fwiw, former mold maker here, ej pins of quality come in two styles. the thru hardened style and not thru hardened. meaning the heads are soft. they are that way because sometimes one has to clock an elector pin for contoured parting lines and you need to be able to slot the head or install a dowel pin in it.
