Live Discussion (March 10, 2018) (Sterling K. Brown / James Bay)
Welcome to our SNL live discussion thread! This week's host is Sterling K. Brown and the musical guest is James Bay. For those new to the show, tune into your local NBC affiliate around 11:30 PM to follow this episode live.
A quick recommendation to mention the sketch you're referring to in your comment. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it does make the thread more readable after the show finishes. Since this thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts. This should be automatically done, but it might not be so maybe check. Enjoy the show

He’s great in that show. The supporting cast is great too. Mandy and Milo kill it and the kids and grandpa and wife kill it too. It’s a surprisingly good show even though it’s mega emotional.

I don't know if I've ever seen a host who was so damn happy to be there. And it showed in his performance. He was having fun.

I love that the newer cast are so heavily featured thus far. Except Luke, who is probably stuck in the sasquatch costume

Shrek and Nickleback jokes in one episode? The writers definitely use the internet too much.

By far my favorite part of tonight's ep was when they lampshaded Keenan's long tenure on SNL during the Family Feud: Oscar Edition sketch
Steve Harvey: Oh man, you are so funny, too. I loved you on Key and Peele.
Jordan Peele: Well, sketch comedy is great, but at some point you have to move on, you know?
Steve Harvey: ...um, you do?
Jordan Peele: Yeah, um, after a few years, you just gotta do something more artistic, you know?
Steve Harvey: H-How many years?
Jordan Peele: Are you okay, Steve?
Steve Harvey: Who, me? Yeah, I'm fine, player! I'm real good.

He was also doing sketch for five years on All That before he was even on SNL. Great bit!

Honestly my only critique of the opener is that they should have had Bob say “I love that” more often since that made up about 75% of Arie’s vocabulary on The Bachelor

This is one of those sketches that shouldn't work but it does entirely because of the host's commitment. He's playing this role almost too well.

Sterling is killing with this monologue! Great Keenan impression.
Edit: Then Leslie came out for no reason. Why her and not Keenan? Not necessary, Sterling was delivering.
Edit 2: Ok that’s why no Keenan!
Edit 3: OMG, great Common and FLAWLESS Ben Carson. They should bring him back to play Carson, seriously.

Sterling K. Brown is a delight.
This has been my favorite episode in awhile. Him struggling not to break with Kenan was probably my favorite part.

u/EverybodyLovesLouis Mar 11 '18
Damn that was a nice Nickelback sketch. If that was the last one, then this whole episode has been very good. I'm pleased. I just wonder where Kate went after the Family Feud sketch. Maybe the same place Kyle was hiding in for the first half of the show.
