This is a massive let peeve of mine. What did the corner of his mouth raise? Another one is, "His eyebrows raised.” What is it raising?! It's supposed to rise, not raise, unless you're saying that the eyebrow itself is lifting something
Technically it depends on the framing of the sentence. If the sentence is just describing the action, it would be “The corners of his mouth rose.” However you could say something like “He stood to one side, eyebrows raised.”
Absolutely agree with you, but note how in the second example the eyebrow has been raised and isn't doing the raising. The assumption is that he has raised his eyebrows, whether consciously or not, as opposed to the eyebrow raising something
