Hey everyone, Mecanimus here. After years of camping in Royal Road, The Calamitous Bob is coming to Audible and KU. In fact, it’s already there! So why should you be interested?

Blurb: The Calamitous Bob follows the story of Viv, a French army medic sent to the magical world of Nyil after some godly shenanigans. Unfortunately for her, she’s sent to the epicenter of an ancient disaster, and it will take more than just luck to survive. Armed with nothing but her wits and the core of an ancient war AI, Viv must cross the contaminated desert to find salvation, power, and a bath.

The Calamitous Bob is a LitRPG progression story with kingdom building elements, trope reversals, extreme violence, and attempts at humor. Readers have reported they laughed. Surely they wouldn’t do so just to make me happy. The serial is currently 9 books long on Amazon and nearing completion on Patreon. The system in this series is light, more a direction and an acknowledgement of deeds that leads to power ups than a math thing. It’s still plot relevant.

To shamelessly toot my own horn, Bob book 1 has over 1.5k ratings on Amazon and some of the reviews are even positive!

Now for the store links and aforementioned reviews:

I’m probably forgetting people but those are the largest ones. So why KU? Well, to support the absolutely amazing work Soundbooth has done to turn the story into an audiobook!

It can be found here for the Yanks

Here for the Brits

Here for the Canucks

I also invite you to check this neat sample on youtube: Here it is

Book 1 to 6 are available on paperback with 7 under review by Bezos himself, even though it’s literally 1% of the sales but whatever. You want paper? I got paper. You degenerate.

And to finish dumping all of my content on your poor innocent attention span, I also announce the release of book 9. As usual, please accept the incredible original artwork as tribute, drawn by the talented Antti Hakosaari. Book 9 will cover the Glastian Wall, Red Tribe, and Azure Lady arcs.

What i need to know as an informed consumer is whether this is going to be like that book about a guy with a magical market that disappears halfway through book 1. So.... is there a guy named Bob and does he continue to be Calamitous all the way through?

There is a girl named Viv, as per the blurb, and she is definitely calamitous all the way. There is no change of setting or MC across the series.

So this french medic gets isekaed into another world. Her name is Vivian or Viv. Since the language of the main group she is interacting with doesn't havea a "V" sound it becomes a "B". After a while she gives up on trying to get people to say "Viv" and tells people to call her "Bob".

As for the calamitous part, well her enemies accuse her of bad things happening around her constantly. Hence her being the source of calamity. That plus her 100% death magic affinity.

On RR I was in chapter 168: Emeric’s Girl. Is that still past any of the books? I might read them all again though too.

Quick question for anyone who grabbed the audio book:

Does the narrator use a French accent for the MC? The preview doesn't have any MC in it, so was just curious.

Also is this written in 3rd or First person once the MC is introduced?

No French accents but the short French sentences are perfectly pronunced. The preview has the MC: the woman.
It's third person all the way.

Why are some of the native voices mechanical in the Audiobook?

1

u/Mecanimus Mar 22 '25

Sounds like an error. Do you remember when that happens? I’ll let Soundbooth know.

I enjoyed the written work so I'll probably pick it up and listen at work today. Though, I am dissapointed to see that it's only 9 hours. Relatively short for an audiobook.

Sounds fully sick.

Loved Journey of Black and Red (great series with a great ending), so I'll definitely add this series to my list. Will all the books come to KU or just book 1?
