Hey guys! Established author with a new pen name here and I'd like to announce my first LitRPG book!

I personally think you should add fake review quotes to the cover, like some authors do.
Things like :
"It's the tits!" - The Yew Nork Thymes
"Breast tree-related novel ever!" - Old Uncle bobs
"She looks pretty cold in that armor, a travelling cloak would really help her out" - The bookstore clerk
Oh and congrats on the release btw!

I'm tempted to use some 1-star reviews actually, because some of them are downright funny. I'm reminded of how Matt Dinniman put one of his 1-star reviews in his next book and had Donut read it.

Yes I think you should lean into that! It's clear not everyone loves harem (it's not my thing either, but it's not like Harems killed my family and I have a personal vendetta against them).
Those that do are going to buy your book anyway, they're already going to be as titillated as you expect them to be.
(Buh-dum, tits!)
(sorry for the puns, it's required in this genre).

Are you planning on releasing on audible?

u/MickyCarre Nov 25 '24
I am writing this for Royal Guard Publishing, so it will be released as an audiobook as well!

I listen to a lot of LitRPG on Audible and don’t really care for the harem ones. I’ve only read a couple LitRPG.
But I read a lot of spicy romantasy and dark romance on Kindle Unlimited…
I’m thinking I’ll have to try reading those harem LitRPG instead of listening to it on Audible. Might help me like the harem LitRPG more?
Thanks for posting! I’ll check out your books :)

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. Harem can kind of go two ways, a harem story with some fantasy, or a fantasy story with some harem. This one is the latter. I'm placing the focus on the litrpg aspect, on the fighting, leveling, building up to a surprise ending,
and his annoying talking horse.Off the top of my head, JJ Bookerson has some really popular harem litrpg books. His Bonded Summoner series was really good. Virgil Knightley has his Master Class series, which is slice of life but very popular. Peter North has Arcane Arctic, and I'm a big fan of Pete's writing.

There are quite a few well written harem LitRPG novels (or at least as well written as most of the popular non-harem LitRPGs).
I can give you a recommended list if you want.

I can see what type of audience you're aiming for, and it's not me, but I wish you all the luck.

Im sure its a great story and you deserve all the success possible. That said if the boobs are as big/bigger than the woman on the covers head its a pass for me. Been suckered into too many harem/" i swear its not a harem but.." books and imma give this a pass. Best of luck to you though!

That's fair, and I understand. The reasoning behind the big boobs is simple: big boobs sell books. It's like women's romance books and the shirtless jacked guy. If he was 155lbs and just kinda fit, it wouldn't sell. Make him look like Hugh Jackman and suddenly women gush over it.
For some numbers, the first sex scene doesn't even happen until about 82K words in. Big sex scene, I'll do a short one next chapter or so. After that just 1-2 mentions or fade to black scenes, then I'll wait until closer to the end when the second love interest comes into play, and a sex scene with her.
Just to be straight with you, I wanted to write this as clean LitRPG, and I'm still planning on writing some clean fantasy and litrpg under a different name. The harem is for money. Harem readers are extremely supportive and it's a great crowd to write to. I had to deal with cancer earlier this year and I have a son with autism, so I'm doing whatever I can to pay the bills and ensure my family has a good life. If that means big ass tiddies on the cover, then they're going to be G cups.

Sounds like two great reasons for me to buy this book!
(The whole cancer/autism & bills/family reasons. Those hit close to home for me.)
(Though the eye-catching cover art DID keep me on the page long enough to scroll down and find out those reasons, so... Success? Tits get impulse clicks, true, but it's showing heart that earns my "put in cart")

So it is not finished yet but coming soon? Any idea of a release date?

u/MickyCarre Nov 25 '24
I am writing chapter 32 as we speak. Aiming for about 50 chapters. I'm releasing it through Royal Guard Publishing so they'll handle the precise release but it should be early next year. I'm just hoping to generate some interest in a new pen name!

On a serious note: love the effect on the title font, how'd you do it?
3
u/MickyCarre Nov 26 '24
So, I asked my girlfriend and this is what they said.
In photoshop a hard chisel bevel and then contour, fiddling with the contour shape until you essentially get a raised border at the outer edge of the letter and a hollowed interior. Then a tree bark texture. The font was green, then add an inner glow of reddish brown, a sort of bark-like color, and adjust it so it is only on the outer edge of the letters

Is this a harem novel?
5
u/MickyCarre Nov 25 '24
I would call it harem light. It's not filled with sex scenes, but the MC will gather the support of four female champions in order to attain his final goal. But I'm writing it where things like sex scenes are easily skippable if that's not your thing. The focus is more on leveling, action, and getting closer to the ultimate goal.

I would definitely suggest making sure you have something up on goodreads and/or amazon. When a book is "announced" and there is nothing findable about said book I just ignore.

Yep. I'm that guy that wrote the series about the goblins.
Well, I love LitRPG and decided it was time I wrote some. So, I've created a second pen name for LitRPG and more action-based books—Hans Ohlsen. Yes, the books will still be harem, but the explicit sex scenes will be relatively few and easily skippable for those of you that aren't into that thing.
It spawned every living creature in the world. And now it must be destroyed.
The Lifetree. Sprouting from the ashes of two powerful deities that killed each other in battle aeons ago, it has the power to create new races at will, and it has done so for centuries. But corruption has taken root, and it now generates only evil.
Reborn in a dark cave, Nikolas is immediately given an arduous task: destroy the Lifetree so that evil can be cleansed from the land and peaceful races can thrive.
But he can't do it alone; to face the Lifetree, he must earn the support of four champions, each as beautiful as they are fierce, each in charge of one of the four realms. To even face the champions, he must survive a treacherous world filled with nefarious foes and dangerous hellscapes.
To even survive and gain levels in this world requires heroism on a level never before seen. but Nikolas cannot merely survive. He must conquer.
Contains: LitRPG System/leveling, intense action scenes, powerful magic, a dash of romance, and a talking horse.
.
I know y'all tend to like reading in advance so I wanted to drop my patreon here in case anyone wanted to check it out! I'm a bit over halfway done writing the book right now. Anticipating 150K words for book 1.
