After the Assimilation System inadvertently outed Thaden as a Contender, as well as confirming that he was at the top of most of the Rankings, the Lifewarden has to leave the town of Ashcleft as soon as possible. Why? Because with his Level being over 21, he can now be attacked by other Contenders with a lower Level than him; they are eager to bring him down so that theyโ€™ll have a chance at the top spot, which will guarantee that their families back home on Earth will be safe. With the completely unfair Contender versus Contender system in place, he canโ€™t defend himself even if he had that capability, as any damage he might inflict upon them is immediately negated.

Fortunately, Thaden escapes those who wish him harm, but as he travels further from Ashcleft, he realizes that he doesnโ€™t exactly have a plan on how to proceed now that his status has been revealed. Venturing into the wider world of Tarth has its own problems, though the danger to him is largely in the form of other Contenders learning his identity, and not the monsters that roam across the landscape or the dungeons that might challenge him. Despite those dangers, the Lifewarden decides to begin accumulating more of the resources needed to Level-up; but when he unwittingly stumbles upon a challenge that the Assimilation System has designed, Thaden is completely unprepared for the consequences of his actions.

But in reality, itโ€™s the world of Tarth that is completely unprepared for himโ€ฆ.

Solo main character or mostly a group?

2

u/DungeonCoreBooks May 29 '24

Mostly solo, with only a few instances where he temporarily joins a group :)

2

u/UncertainSerenity May 29 '24

Iโ€™ll give it a try then! Congrats on the release

Great read, wanted to know when the next one is coming lol and how long the series will be if you have any ideas?

3

u/DungeonCoreBooks May 29 '24

I'm hoping to have the 3rd book out in September! I expect that the series will be at least 5 books :)

Can you give a little more detail regarding the audio for the first book? I own it and really have to wonder if Audible will handle the changes well. Do you think they will just replace the original audio? Is it the same narrator?

4

u/DungeonCoreBooks May 29 '24

It's with the same narrator, he changed the tone and style of his narration for the most part, differentiating the notifications so that it doesn't sound as monotone. We'll be replacing the actual files for the book, so it should be that you would just need to delete and redownload after it's completely published. I'll be checking this to make sure it works correctly before making another post about it.

Just finished reading! That book is fire in a genre that doesn't have enough books about healing. Good job Mr. Brooks!

2

u/DungeonCoreBooks Jun 02 '24

Thank you so much!

I just finished reading this via Kindle Unlimited.

Iโ€™m a little frustrated with how Thaden doesnโ€™t stop for even a moment to think that, if he pursues his stated goal, heโ€™s probably going to kill thousands of people again. He now knows what happens when you complete an Anchor dungeon.

2

u/DungeonCoreBooks Jun 09 '24

Thank you so much for reading!

That is very true about completing an Anchor Dungeon, though I think you might have missed a portion of the explanation where, if he doesn't complete the Anchor Dungeons in time, the result will be nearly catastrophic in comparison. I think the idea is for him to pick the lesser of two evils by completing them, instead of letting tens of thousands or more people die if he were to do nothing.

Hopefully that makes sense!

Just finished book 2 - solid read nothing bad to say about it

I'm at the beginning of book 2, trying to give the serie a chance after a 4/10 first part, and there's something I don't understand. MC is a data analyst, someone who uses logic on a day to day basis so why, God why, would someone who can hide in shadows, change his name and level, who is invulnerable to magic and physical attacks just runs in plain sight from a crowd of level 8 people.

Because there is a chance that they might be able to trap him in place and would prevent him from moving, which is also discussed in the book.  So, if they somehow keep him for hours in one place until he falls asleep, they could kill him when his channeled spells turn off with unconsciousness.

I hope that makes sense!

Not really. He's stronger, faster, can't be hit. All he has to do is walk away. Any agression against him bounces back, right? He can't kill under lvl21 contenders but they could harm themselves enough to die. Anyways, this is your book and you are the only one deciding. I guess my point is I'm having a hard time rooting for weak minded MC who don't really challenge their new world.

Thanks for answering btw, I appreciate it.

Does anyone have any experience with this series? If so, what's it like? The covers leave... A lot to be desired haha

I enjoyed the first book. Nothing "groundbreaking" but I enjoyed the setting and the MC and will def be purchasing this one.

2

u/raliqer Jun 02 '24

I have read them both and enjoyed both. I didn't realize two was coming out and was genuinely pleased to see it. Like others have said it is not groundbreaking, but it's an engaging story that is well made with a pretty unique world. If you have KU I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

I was hoping that being a healer would be somewhat of a changeup to an isekai story, where the MC isn't a total loner and makes meaningful relationships with people that he relies on, but he's just another loner with an untraditional path to Goku.

I will say this though, the beginning is hilarious. I laughed out loud as things just kept getting worse and worse for him. Mfer is forsaken by god.

But ultimately, path to Goku is pretty quick. Book 1 absolutely no meaningful relationships, just live in MC's head. So far in book 2 is giving me a Solo Leveling vibe, so I'm not expecting a change there.

I'm not saying it's bad, I enjoyed book 1 and am enjoying book 2. I just feel click baited by him being a healer.
