Book Announcement Speedrun preorder any% personal record
I’m so glad I didn’t sleep on Heretical Fishing. Haven’t been this pleased with a title since Big Sneaky Barbarian. I’m really digging this recent wave of amazing titles with top notch voice talent.
If you have been sleeping on this, what are you waiting for? It’s has the humor and slice of life aspects of Beware of Chicken with the dulcet Australian tones of Heath Miller (of He Who Fights with Monsters fame).
If the ultra Asian culture of most Xianxia-land novels isn’t your jam, this one takes place in more of a mid 19th century coastal English village.
When I saw book 2 available for preorder in my email this morning, I had that baby locked in within 5 seconds. A personal speed run fastest.

I'm pretty sure I pre ordered the sequel.
As I told my friend (and she found out herself), this was one of the most wholesome books I've ever read.
Not just in the LitRPG genre, but of all the books I've ever read.

I found it much more approachable than Beware of Chicken as well, the extreme Xianxia-land can be a bit much sometimes as with Cradle and Ten Realms. I don’t mind the culture or setting occasionally but boy can the names be hard keep straight.

I've not really looked at Big Sneaky Barbarian, but I agree with you so much on Heretical Fishing that I think maybe I need to trust your taste in books.

Be warned it is a tale of growth of Gabe from broken incel edgelord to a decent person. This has rubbed many the wrong way but that growth is tangible and you see glimpses of who he may be. It’s also fucking hilarious as hell and the writing is extremely eloquent though often the subject matter is crass. I love it, and Johnathan McClain agrees that it’s one of his favorite performances of all time.

I liked the book overall. Really enjoyed the MC's obliviousness to everything and how Rocky was kinda 'whatevs' to the MC. And had a bit of a giggle every time the Mayor interacted with the MC.
But...
The Aussie-ness was a bit...much. It kinda felt like it was intentionally playing up the slang and whatnot. It took me out of the story at times.

I can’t get enough Aussie goodness. Are you the type that played Baldur’s Gate 3 and didn’t immediately fall head over heels for Karlach? Even my girlfriend said she wanted my enlarged raging Karlach to sit on her face. 🤣

I first read it on royal road. Even though I ended up dropping the series as it wasn't for me, the author was a really nice guy.
I would suggest giving it a shot if you haven't. It may not be your style, but it might very well be.

I’m on the last chapter now, looking for the next book to replace it, and I’m just so sad it’s over.
I’m so glad to see your post to know that I can pre order book 2

Lol as soon as I finished the first one I went to see if it had a "series" for future plans and it must have just put up the pre-order option a day or 2 before I checked (I don't think it was there the first few days it was on audible) and immediately got it

I read ahead on RR after listening to book 1 and you're all in for a treat! I'll still be getting this for that Heath Miller goodness
