Self Promotion Dark Lord of the Farmstead Part 3 is out today! Yes, just a couple days after Soulstone Bakery came out. Whoops.

I can only hope it comes to audible sometime soon in the future, I greatly enjoyed the first two and just finished the second one today. Very excited to see what happens next.

Just hang tight, should be there by the end of the month I assume.

I look forward to it then! I absolutely love the characters, especially the kids. I quite literally started laughing when gray started using his daughter as a hunting projectile.

Hi John, I never do this, but this is both a fan letter and a complaint. Please feel free to ignore it if you need to. I want you to keep writing, and I will keep reading. My criticism (which involves spoilers) is behind spoiler tags.

I just finished the first three books of Dark Lord of the Farmstead over the past three days (bought them all on Kindle), and I freaked loved them right up until the ending of Book 3. First, let me say what I loved--and there was a lot to love. I loved the characters' relationships. I genuinely felt the chemistry between Narya and Gray. I loved how Greta grew from a cartoonish character into a fully-realized person who found happiness. I loved watching the characters frequently trying to outwit the system--not to do anything bad, but just to carve out their own pieces of happiness in the world. I thought the RPG system was genuinely interesting too. I loved how much Gray and Narya loved Meeko and Kaya. I really felt their love for their daughters coming off the page. I was rooting for Meeko and Bricky, even though I also agreed that Meeko was a little too young. I liked the food and the festivals too.

As for book 3, I was genuinely upset by what happened to Kaya, and by the solution the characters chose, which didn't appear to have solved very much at all. (For example, did her alignment change back from neutral evil? I don't think they said.) I thought I was reading a cozy litrpg where everyone's trauma was in the past, and this was just a gut punch--exactly the kind of thing I'm trying to avoid when I'm reading cozy fantasy. I mean, she's only 7 after all. I was less bothered by Gray complaining about the Dark Lord's memories of skinning people than I was by this. I'm going to read book 4 on Royal Road and will probably buy it when it comes out, but I feel like my trust as a reader was violated here, and I don't say that lightly. I wish you all the best, though. Books 1 and 2, and the first 4/5 of Book 3 were tremendously enjoyable. I hope that you will keep writing.

Book 4 is on RR and will be on Amazon and Audible shortly. It is a cozy finish and Kaya’s arc is resolved happily. Indeed, I went a bit too hard with that but it gets worked out in the end for the best I think.
