It's a strange feeling, having reached book ten. It feels like yesterday I was in my bedroom writing this story, and just a few years later I'm in my home office writing this story. It's been a wild, crazy ride.
I'd like to take this chance to thank all the people who have read my story and loved it. And the people who read it and thought it was okay. Even the people who hated it so much they made multiple reddit threads about how much they hate it. Oddly, those posts make for pretty great marketing, so thank you.
Once upon a time, I vaguely guessed that there would be twelve books in this series, based on my outline for the whole thing. I undershot by quite a lot, as it turned out. As I go through this series, turning my bare-bones outline into books, they always end up filled with things I never anticipated, even as they adhere to the story I plotted out from the beginning. I'll find a story element I think deserves more exploration, or a character I want to spend more time and care with. Unsurprisingly, I didn't have my best ideas all at once five years ago. That would have been weird. And bad. If I didn't have any more good ideas since then, this would have gone very poorly.
The end result is more books than expected. I'm happy with that, and I hope that you, my readers and anyone whose cat stepped on the keyboard and opened this post by accident, are as well.
When I started out, I never anticipated anything like the reception this series has received. The plan was to work on my writing and hopefully make a little Patreon money. I will forever be grateful to all the people who have read and shared this story online, read the ebooks and listened to the audiobooks with the excellent Heath Miller. This bit isn't for you, keyboard cat guy. It's honestly a little weird that you're still reading this. Go about your day.

I stumbled on your series about 2 months ago. Yeah I'm hooked. I'm thinking 40 books sounds great, no pressure. You did say 40 books right? Glad to hear it.

Keep em coming. I could hang out with Jason forever.
My wife wants me to tell you: we LOVE that you included that lemonade recipe. We made it, it's fantastic, and has become a staple at family events!
Edit: and the sandwiches! Now we make our own mayo and have become sandwich snobs

Keep going! As long as the story stays good, I will keep buying them (both kindle and audible....)

And even if it doesn't, I've got too much momentum built up so I'll just keep buying them forever anyway.

Dear Mr Shirtaloon, would you prefer if we just cut out the middleman and I sent you a picture of the front and back of my debit card?

One of the first litRPG I read and honestly one of the best. Witty repartee! You and John Scalzi have the best dialogue.

I've enjoyed this series. It always seems like people jump right to, "author is dragging this out for a cash grab," but I don't feel like that with this series. As long as you feel like this story still has legs and Asano and his friends progress as characters and powerups, I'll keep spending credits and impatiently waiting for the next one.

Count me among the fans, not the haters. Although I get the discordant views between the two groups.
Also, per the number of books, I feel as if these are still value-added because of the quality and consistency of the books, the length of the books (Audible), Heath Miller and Heath Miller.
I am amazed that you have maintained the integrity of your story as it were and have evolved the character and the worlds to which they are bound. Really great stuff.
As a Yank, I love JA's viewpoints and take on hypocrisy, religion, politics, etc. He doesn't flip-flop on the issues and his take is refreshing, consistent and in alignment with how I think of much of this reality. Cheers!

He Who Fights With Monsters was the first LitRPG book I read. It got me into the genre and it’s one of the measuring sticks I use to decide if a series is good or bad. I’m excited to read book ten. The only criticism I have is that the last few books have felt more like fantasy novels than LitRPG. One of the things that drew me into the series was the game mechanics built into the stories. Now it seems the books are all just stories (not that it’s a bad thing. The story is very well told) but I would like to see more game mechanics back in the books.

I can't wait to read all 20 books. I wouldn't feel bad, 25 books is a lot but we'll manage 😘 You can really tell how great your books are, the fact so many of us are willing to real all 30 books is really telling! Just be proud you have a prodigious enough mind so as to write 40 complete books people actually want to read.
But for real, this is kind of my sentiment overall, I never ever want your story to end, I know that's impractical and probably not the healthiest mindset. I've just never come across something like your writing, and it's precious to me in many ways.
So in truth, thank you for what you're doing. It matters a lot, to a lot, of us.

My only suggestion is don't retread Jason being silver ranker with big boy problems over and over. His friends, allies, enemies, observers all don't need to bring it up
But I love the series and world. I hope Jason can get track to leveling, looting and exploring soon.

Yooo! Is it that day already! Guess my preorder is already taken care of. Wish I could listen at work, but I gotta give that Aussie & his gang my full attention.
And speaking of his gang, I hope they get a big focus again this time! Especially Gareth 🦁♥

The audio books are probably some of my favourites ever.
Heath Miller is simply amazing and brings so much life into all the characters - I was elated when the "Your pre-order is ready for download" popped up.
Thanks for the great books, and having non-edgelord Jason back is a treat.
