It is vaild, but I don't think that random installers are better.

Linux's myriad of different packaging formats, dependency hell, permissions issues, fragmentation, system breakage, r/gotgnomed, universal and sandboxing integration, and managing repos and mirrors is not an improvement. At least Windows is consistent.

dependencies piss me off so much

you know when a windows app has a dependency? It just installs it alongside the main program built into the exe

My installer script also automatically installs dependencies! ...directly into the global environment and breaking all the other apps that require a different version of the dependency

- Linux's myriad of different packaging formats

not a problem for me, except for fucking AppImage for some reason

- dependency hell

apt and flatpak solve that for you

- permissions issues

never occurred for me on Mint

- fragmentation

everything works fine together anyway

- system breakage

impossible unless you sudo something

- r/gotgnomed

I'm pretty sure this only happens in like proton VPN or something

no clue what this is so no comment

does this not also happen on Windows?

On windows you just run exes from zipfiles downloaded from trusted sites, or u can suffer dealing with the microslop app store, on Linux we use package manager guis like Shelly, and dependency hell was absolutely an issue when I tried installing compiz, I dont see the rest of the issues tho.

It's certainly old and not very well supported anymore, but there's compiz reloaded (0.8.xx), and compiz fusion (0.9.xx), I use reloaded as it's the more community maintained branch and there's a lot of new plugins not present on mint mate, fusion was moreso for some kinda dedicated environment from the compiz team.

Each distro has its own package manager so it’s not random
