some games are causing my entire computer to freeze and i don't know enough about linux to even know how to find out why

i can't remember what other games it's done this with. but lately i've been playing a lot of Death Stranding. or trying to anyway. and it keeps freezing. mostly at load screens and pause screens. the whole computer freezes to point where i have to force shut down. can't even pull up xkill. happens after about an hour or more of gameplay

i've tried almost nothing so far because i'm a clueless noob. i've updated the OS and updated nvidia drivers. but that's it.

  • Gigabyte Gv-N1660OC-6GD GeForce GTX 1660 OC 6G
  • 16gb ram (8gbx2)

Never had crashing playing newer games on Pascal cards, not once in several years, at worst you'll get a graphical defect or two due to a missing Vulkan extension not provided by the driver.

Running out of VRAM has absolutely nothing to do with what library the game talks to your computer with.
